7. May I suggest
climbing the wall?

I'm a newbie but I lurked here a little while before I registered, and I do not know your particulars.

It seems there is a barrier between you and your significant other. If I checked the mortar of that wall, I would probably find things like anger, hurt, and resentment. Maybe bricks of unfinished arguments, of words spoken in anger, and of nights in spent staring at a wall not understanding why the other person doesn't get it.

An anniversary celebrates a beginning. There is no reason that what was can not be again. You loved the person you married, otherwise you would never have married them. It is your anniversary, your time to celebrate beginnings. People change over time, and love is more often a matter of will more than anything else. I encourage you to turn off the TV and computer, remember that date that you really remember and enjoyed? Go do that, with you significant other.

Climb the Wall. Take your significant other out and forget the past eleven years for one night.

8. Because at one time it was something,
that later turned out to be something that didn't work.
It started this day, eleven years ago, so it's right in your face.

I know- it happened to me, too.

Hang in there, guy.
It WILL pass.

( sorry for the incoherency, I'm pretty tired right now)

9. RetroLounge,
I'm very sorry. :(

I wish a bunch of us could be there to keep you company, distract you with funny stories and commiserate about things that go bad.

At the very least I wish we were there to give you a lot of hugs and tease the hell out of you about how cute you are. :*

Please be well.

14. I think that's the good idea.
If there's grief attached to a place or a time, celebrate something that makes you happy instead, intentionally. If you stew, you just boil the stew. Grieve but cultivate a positive feeling and make it grow and grow. It works.

I hope all's well, RL.

17. Mr. Retro, I know that your heart is sad
and that life didn't turn out the way you wanted it to but I have to say that you have so many lovely and good things in your life that I just had to comment.

Sometimes we can't see the good things because of the pain and I know even the good things have been hard to come by for you but can I just say:

You are extremely good looking
You have two beautiful children
You own a fabulous book store and it's full of some of my best friends - books! :insert drooling smiley:
There are so many people here, though not close in location who think you are a wonder and a gift
You have the soul of an artist and the behind of a god :7

I hope you feel better soon.

And I was all, "Waaaaaaaah? What's going on in his marriage that things are THAT bad all of a sudden??" Then I double-checked and I was like, "Oh. Yeah. Poor Retro."

I'm sorry, dude.

Hey man

the feelings don't just stop because you want them to, or because you will them to.

I was sad on my 18th anniversary. Why? Because I realized that no matter what, things will never be the way they were once. Of course they hadn't been that way for a long, long time.

Sorry for you feeling sad...

it is expected though... no matter what the circumstances.

:hi:

40. I know this feeling, and are sorry you're dealing with it.
I hate my anniversary when it rolls around every year. It's December 2. My rehearsal was on World AIDS Day, and we had to set it late enough in the evening that several in the wedding party could get there after participating in AIDS events in Chicago or Champaign. So, every year, the media have to remind me that World AIDS Day has come around again, and thus my anniversary.

My divorce became final two days after my anniversary. I have friends who are more than willing to celebrate that with me.
