To my fellow DU music lovers....
Rip streaming audio and automatically save them as MP3 files. :)
100% legal...and no Gestapo RIAA knocking on your door.

Enjoy...

2. You're welcome!
The ONLY downside to this is that you can't actively go out and
locate a particular song...BUT, since you can rip up to 200 HUNDRED
channels at any one time (bandwidth permitting)...you will
eventually have ALL the songs you want. :D

4. That's the idea.
Then, while you're listening to your new collection you can
weed out the songs you don't like.
BTW, the ONLY thing that I download is 80s stuff...that and
the occasional Euro trance stuff.

There are actually several other station rippers out there but most
will require you to register or purchase their programs.
Long live open source!

7. Nope...
My sis is downloading just fine with her old 56K modem. Works like
a charm.
You won't get the same amount of songs in a given hour for example
but you will still be able to "rip" the songs from the
streaming audio.
Obviously...the more bandwidth...the happier you'll be. ;)

Its the same thing that you would do with a tape deck and local
FM radios.

12. I was only kidding... I'm no fan of digital sound anyway. I'm a vinyl-head
Analog cassettes enabled us to get plenty of free music from friends, radio, etc. for a long time. You'll never get me to feel sorry for the record companies. Screw 'em.

17. some additional music tips
i've been using Boombox (it also records streaming audio) for about a month or two ... it works great ... just pick any internet radio station and choose record ... the recorder writes each song with artist and title to its own file in any directory you specify ...

one minor word of caution, keep an eye on your disk space ... you can easily fill many gigobytes in a very short time with any of these streaming audio recorders ...

here's the download link for Boombox: http://www.jajsoft.com/products.html

now, for those who want to take recording to the next level, you might want to edit out any non-music (e.g. dj talking, commercials, whatever) from the recorded mp3 files ... well, here's a program you can download that does a great job .. it's called Audacity ... here's a link: http://audacity.sourceforge.net

and one last page with lots of music related stuff:

24. Correct...but....
I'm sure that if you do a search there should be a Linux version
out there somewhere or a similar program that permits the same
action.
If I find one I'll post it as well.
