Prediction: My friend Megan will be the local NDP candidate within 5 years

She's a young student whose concentration is in history and who started in political science, and still loves the subject even though she realises that she much prefers history. She's intelligent, attractive, atriculate, and involved in a lot of NDP-led events in Ottawa.

(Sadly, there are precious few here. The NDP presence was destroyed where I live back in 1987 when the former NDP MPP endorsed the Liberal candidate, handing the Liberals the worker vote on a silver platter. This candidate continued to run in 2003. He was generally a good representative and had excellent constituent services, but he was somewhat homophobic, which really turned me off. But from what I hear, a lot of Liberals take this position because a lot of people who vote Liberal on economic issues where I live are fairly socially conservative.)

She's the type of candidate the NDP typically runs here, as they haven't been able to attract a reasonably high profile candidate since 1997 (he got crused by the Liberal Machine though.) and I bet even my libertarian step-dad (Actually, he's libertarian-leaning, but will vote for anyone who has a vision, even if that vision opposes his own. He despises waffler candidates like Bob Rae, Ernie Eves, and Dalton McGuinty. He liked both Harris (PC) and Hampton (NDP). He hates Bush more than my centre-left mom does...lol) would vote for her because he knows her personally and respects her. (She's my brother's ex-gf. They're both great people, but I can see why they couldn't work it out. They're very different.)
