DELL
I am so thoroughly disgusted right now, I don't know what to do.

I've been on the phone 2 days trying to return it & am getting no help. I want my money back but customer service knows nothing.

What did I do to do deserve this?

14. OK....
Does this happen with ANY program CD or just a particular CD?
Let's find out whether your CD drive has any driver issues.
Click on:
Start | Settings | Control Panel
Select System.
Then, on the System Properties screen, select Hardware.
Then, mid-screen, Device Manager section. Click on the Device
Manager button.
On the hardware tree, are there any exclamation marks next
to the CDROM?

15. DELL Services/Sales has changed
I have been a loyal DELL fan for the last 5 years. About three years ago they saved my but by fixing a fried laptop and I thought I was a DELL customer for life.

Last week I had one of the worst customer support issues I have ever encountered with a service/sales org. I could not get one person there to care about it.

Check it out. There is no way to complain to dell about dell and I couldn't find a person who even cared. My next computer will be from HP.

6. Dell "outsources" consumer customer support
They are not exactly my favorite company when they outsource jobs that many Americans can use cause they can hire someone in India for 2 dollars a day, and then want to sell to Americans.

Who do American companies think are going to buy thier products when they have "outsourced" us to oblivion.

24. Dell $2.7 billion in U.S. government contracts Iraq/Afghanistan
On Sept. 24, 2003, Dell announced that it was one of four information technology companies to receive a U.S. Army contract worth up to $500 million. The other contracts went to GTSI Corporation, Hewlett-Packard Company and Lockheed Martin Integrated Systems. The contracts are designed to provide the U.S. Army with PCs, servers, storage systems, networking equipment, operating systems, commercial software and accessories. The contracts also provide for biometric devices like fingerprint recognition and wearable computers. In September 2002, Dell Marketing L.P. won a $7.7 million U.S. government contract for laptops and computer workstations for use aboard Navy ships in the Pacific. In May 2002, Dell Marketing L.P. won a $17.7 million competitive contract from the U.S. Marine Corps Systems Command for 9,940 notebook computers.

8. Dell's 'customer service', LOL!
My suggestion: access their 'Customer Care' page, and email them with the details of your situation. This will generate an email trail.

Dell will respond within a few hours, and that way you have a WRITTEN RECORD of the correspondence, should you wish to dispute their charges on your credit card. Believe it or not, the email 'customer service' area of Dell was of greater assistance and less time-consuming than their useless phone-in 'customer service'.

I thought you meant billing, etc.. but here's a link.

I thought from your first post you meant non-technical issues such as receiving wrong items, etc. Oops! But, here is a page that will lead you to their online tech support area.

http://support.dell.com/index.aspx

If you do resort to returning anything to them, again I strongly suggest generating an email trail w. customer service so that you can easily dispute their charges on your credit card.

20. I bought from Microcenter too!
I bought a whole new system from them 3 years ago. I bought a PowerSpec and have had no problems with it at all. I also bought my monitor and all other components from them. Their sales people are knowledgeable and helpful. Their prices are decent too especially if you can catch them on sale.

The funny part about it was I bought the machine without consulting with my son and then it turned out he was customer support for PowerSpec.

I'm definitely looking forward to my next rig based on the Athlon64.

When I have a problem with my 8200 desktop I go here:
http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums, and do a keyword 'Search' of my problem, (e.g., No sound) and more often than not I get about 20 messages related to the problem and someone posts the fix. Good luck.

30. Have You Tried The "Back Door" Command?
Several years ago, the Dell Notebook I purchased had Windows ME and kept freezing up.

I was directed to MSCONFIG and type in ZZTOP and it restored the sucker into the "as delivered" condition.

Needless to say, Customer Service then was excellent; my second Notebook purchase may has been as well through Mars as much as the Tech Support in India understands English.

This is my second and last Dell PC!!!!
