A Sunday beer/alcohol question
How many people here live in a county, city, or state that prevents you from buying beer/alcohol in stores today?
Also, could you order a drink in a local restaurant?

I live in Georgia where you cannot buy beer/alcohol on Sunday, but in most cities you can have a beer with your meal at Olive Garden (for example). It's a good thing I bought a lot of beer yesterday, so I can get sloppy drunk today and wave my drunken finger in the face of the state's blue laws.

1. How I think the rules go
Statewide Liquor stores are closed.

This is Oklahoma so you can buy 3.2 beer but not so called premium or full strength beers at restaurants.

Bars can be open depending on the city.

In other words pretty dumb.

I've never heard of any jurisdiction other than dry counties where you couldn't get onsale liquor on Sundays.

3. YES....
I mean ...

here in NJ you can buy beer and alcohol in the liquor store (I think they are open from 11 to 6 not sure about that though).
and order a hard drink or beer at the restaurants....

My town does not allow wine and beer in the food stores...
some towns do, so we have friggin super center liquor stores
I go to the mom and pop places.... they are much nicer and make sure
what you usaully buy is in stock....

lost

10. Same here in Minnesota
Grocery and convience stores can only sell 3.2% beer. But, since they have laws preventing the listing of alcohol on beer, you don't know how much alcohol is being cut out!

:grrr:

13. There used to be a little drive-thru in Gate City, VA. that would sell a gallon milk jug of beer.
Cheap beer but cold cold cold.
It was even cheaper if you brought your own milk jug.

Many in Tuscaloosa are trying to get Sunday sales passed but it will be a while before it happens.

14. The place I lived in also had a drive-thru gas station
great place to pick up some lottery tickets, a case of beer, a bag of chips, a loaf of bread, and some hot-and-crispy mini-tacos or barbequed ribs. Without leaving your car.

Especially useful when it was ten below or a hundred ten above.

6. It was like that in Vermont when I was growing up
I don't recall if it is now.

Here in California, you can buy booze whenever you damn well please. And just about wherever.

I sell beer, wine and hard liquor in the grocery store where I work. The only time we don't sell is between the hours of 2am and 6am. I guess they feel people need to knock it off for a short time. :)

But at 6am, people start buying again. Yes, even on Sunday. :wow:

7. Here we can buy it after 12 pm in the grocery stores
I assume liquor stores are open after 12 on Sundays but I rally don't know. Texas has some funny laws. Some counties are completely, others are not. I still find it weird that you can;t buy a car on Sunday. By law, the dealerships have to be closed.

12. NC- beer and wine after 1PM
But the state liquor stores that sell the hard stuff are closed on sunday. But you can still buy a mixed drink at a restaurant or bar.

15. Alabama-no Sunday sales, except in
The following counties:
Jefferson (Birmingham)
Madison (Huntsville)
Montgomery
Lee (Auburn)
Macon (Tuskegee)
Mobile
Baldwin (Gulf Shores)

My home county, Walker, is dry except for the county seat, Jasper.

Pretty dumb, IMHO.

16. You can't buy a car or a bottle of booze on Sunday...
in MN. There is 3.2 beer in the grocery stores and alcohol is served in restaurants and bars (most bars here close at 1:00 at the latest).

During the week the liquor stores close at 8:00 pm and stay open until 10:00 pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

Liquor stores in Wisconsin are open on Sunday. Some folks do make that 30 minute drive.
