Well, my professional life has taken a turn for the better!
:) Last week, I went through a whirlwind recruitment by a college that has an excellent reputation and is growing like wildfire. I had not applied for the job, nor had I even told any of my colleagues I was looking or interested in that job. I did a lot of research in a very short period of time, and by 6 PM Friday, I had the job and the salary and benefits I wanted. :woohoo: I start there on Nov. 19----gotta give my current employer 30 days' notice, and I want to take a couple of days off in between. Also, this thriving school is only an easy 10-minute drive from my house, which is 25% of my current suckass commute. :woohoo: :toast:

The sucky part of the last few days is that a construction crew damaged the internet and phone lines coming in to our neighborhood, so from 5 PM Friday until the wee hours of this morning, we had no internets and no phone. :( Thank goodness I have a cell phone! Our cable TV was messed up but not gone completely because of the same problem, but now it's back in full working order. I couldn't email anyone about my new job or even log in here to say anything.

So, the next order of business is to give my current employer notice tomorrow. They will panic and they will scramble, but considering all the bullshit I have experienced, especially in the last three months, I have no problem doing it. As my husband said, they're gonna be hating life, but that's how it goes. :P I've been fixing HUGE, GIGANTIC problems that I did not cause, and it just keeps getting worse and worse. Fortunately, I'm going to be gone in a month, so I don't have to deal with them beyond that time. I've done a lot of good work there, but given what I know about the administration there and what I've had to deal with, I would never, ever be able to fix everything because many things are beyond my control (like the prez's management capabilities or lack thereof).

Anyhow, tomorrow should be an interesting day. :P Things changed for the better (for me, that is) in an instant last week.

8. Kudos, New Wave

Such a great feeling to be recruited instead of "pounding the
pavement"....and a ten minute commute is certainly worth a lot
(at least in LA). Wishing you the very best..p

15. UPDATE: My boss is in shock.
I just met with her, and she was blown away. :yoiks: They're gonna be scrambling now, but I'll deal with it until I have to leave and then it's not my issue any more. :)

I hope you got the moon!
I applied for the job I was talking about at 4:30pm Friday afternoon. I had a confirmation letter in my home mailbox Saturday am. I live 25 miles away so that was quick. October 25th is the day:scared:

21. Congrats!
I was recruited a few years ago which resulted in my present employer matching the offer. That was cool too.

You will love your short commute. It sounds like a great job!
