Cat people or dog people
I thought it would be a discussion to see who are the cat people and who are the dog people (and who are the "other" people).

Also it would be fun to see how that compairs to your original candidate in the primary.

Me, I am a cat person. I love them cause they are their own person. You have to earn their love, unlike dogs who seemingly want to love everyone. (I like the fact you have to work on the relationship).

My original candidate was Gephardt, but now I support Dean. (Strange combo but although I like cats, I like underdogs, or is that undercats?)

3. Dog person.
After thousands of years of selective breeding, dogs are almost as crazy as humans. Their body language is easier to read, they fit into the human pack.

7. C'mon more details. Why do you love them?
I think the cat/dog debate is one of the best indications of a persons personality. Of course within reason, since other conditions can affect the choice (like living in an apartment).

All things being ideal, why would you chose one over the other? As for me, I chose cats because they are more of a challenge, and I am not satisfied with something being easy (i.e. the pets love).

Stangely though, I could never bring myself to name my cats like most other people do. Here are the names I have used (if you can call them that).

Mr Snuggle Cat
Catty Mc Catterson
Catty Cat Cat
Professor Catsworth

Yeah, they are silly, but I general just call them Cat. I just cant be so presumptive to force a name on them I guess.

12. Cat person
I love cats for alot of reasons.
I have three cats,Rustle Vinny and Sparkle.

Since Cats are not pack animals, they don't have a concept of follow a leader. Cats are socially more like a pride so obedience isn't a big thing for cats to do.
Cats are my household entourage.Or maybe I'm their entourage and I like that insistence on equality, together that it keeps me humble and proud to be a part of our household pride.
Cats are very sensual, sensitive, emotional Friends to have.
(that is if they connect to you because they see kinship with you)

Cats don't play games when it's important, they will let you know exactly how they feel about things you do and they will make their unhappiness abundantly clear. But also a cat's joy inescapably contagious..
Cats seek to participate in your life
but they aren't trying to please you all the time either.

Cats can do things for their own amusement on their own time and sometimes they ask for you to participate.
Cats can teach you how to love yourself when every human in your life is tearing you apart.
Cat fur when kitty cuddles up smells wonderful and fresh.
Cats when they love you,you know it and it's the most sweet treasure one can earn.

Cats are great at zoning in and deliberately annoying the crap outta cat haters that happen to invade your shared space. This is amusing to watch.

Sometimes cats can turn avowed cat haters into avowed cat lovers, because the hater develops a sense of humor and humility about it all and soon he can see another side of himself the cat shows him. This process is a joy to observe.

Cats are complex
Cats when they need you do ask for your companionship with dignity intact.
Cats in distress can show some amazing resourcefulness courage and trust when you expect them not to.
Cats have glow in the dark eyes and damn that's just cool.

Cats can be awesome hunters, and some cats share their success with us humans who can't hunt crap.Cats do this because they think they need to teach us how to hunt, they worry about us because we are part of their life that matters to them and it is not just because we can open cans. To a human, mouse kidneys placed right where you step are a strange way to show concern for your ability to survive. The innards of small creatures are the most valued parts of prey because they are the most nutritionally diverse, fatty and nutrition packed parts your cat gives it to you because they understand sharing food is important to a pride/communities peace and harmony and they don't care that you are not a cat too unlike us.To the cats that grace your life you are important.

Cats know when people in the house are coming home 20 minutes before they arrive, when it seems impossible to know how they know. They perch at the window, and they notify you__is coming home.
And it doesn't have to be a routine absence they just know.

Cats' sense of smell is more acute than dogs and they can even store a scent in their sinuses to sniff it again later.

Cats don't feign obliviousness at being ridiculed by people because they do understand why you laugh at them or talk about them in bad ways even if you use "nicey tones".They get hurt emotionally too.
Cats can read subtle clues we think we don't give away that show our true intentions.

Cats are sensitive fire alarms and sensors of character in people and they will alert you to any differences they sense about your shared territory they can't reconcile during the many rounds they make patrolling and marking. They will let you know when other people.pets or cats in the house are feeling different sick or upset before you notice it.

Cat mothers are the best mothers there are,and a great example to human mothers about what selfless devotion to your kids is all about, and cats have a unique ability during certain times during the mothering process to'adopt' other species as their own in their litters.Mother cats have whelped rats, ducks, squirrels ..that happened to need a mother.

Female cats will not tolerate rape from toms, they will claw the crap out of an aggressor.Queens choose their suitors and the suiters deal with her choice without resorting to domination of her to get their way.(there are rare exceptions to this with cat colonies that are in danger or under duress in extreme situations)

Cats are exquisite in their facial, bodily and vocal expressiveness.
Cats love music.
Cats sleep in the dirty laundry basket while you are gone because they miss your smell.
Cats are very sentimental creatures.
Cats show concern for you without being intrusive.
Cats are incredibly beautiful.
Cats are soft, gentle and when they spend time with you it's very emotionally intimate tender and genuine thing unlike anything else.
Cats have great senses of humor.
Cats can show you what's really important in life by their example.

20. A little projection, perhaps?
I like cats, but I don't get any of that. Cats are like, well, cats. They are put together differently from humans, dogs, or any other animal.

Perhaps you're seeing yourself in cats. Judging from your post, though, that isn't a bad thing at all.

9. I like Cats but I am at heart truly a DOG person...
My little Aussie mix can be quite the independent girl as well (although she does seemingly keep a corner of her eye peeeled to make sure I don't sneak off!)

I remain uncommitted but have seen much positive in Kerry, Clark, Dean, Edwards from the first. The others had lots to offer, including Kucinich-- who is clearly the most progressive-- but I am too pragmatic not to focus on those most likely to win the nomination and have the best chance against Bush*. I'm very dissapointed at how the media has been shaping perceptions in this election-- especially right now with Clark and Dean. Clark should be doing much better than he is, and the whole thing with Dean's speech was moronic....

I'm prepared to support the eventual nominee fully, even though I know I won't agree with him on every issue. There is more at stake this time around......

So, like my dogs, I guess I must be a "loyal" person (at least to the current DEM party)...

15. Face sleeping
I had a cat that would only sleep on my face. I had to sleep with my head off the bed, and would be awoken by a started can clawing me as he rolls over my face trying to sleep on the warm vent.

16. Cats and their housekeeping staff live here
That's the sign on my front door (gift from my best friend last Christmas, a definite dog person). I have three, and my wife has one with her at her current assignment. I don't have very creative names for them; Pooky, DC and Tootsie, and my wife's cat is Putzin. Cats rule, you never know what they will do next and it's wonderful watching them play by themselves or roll around playing with each other.

18. I love animals PERIOD - but am slightly more a cat person.

Hey, I'm a Leo - can't help it! :)

I have 3 kitties I've been carting around with me for 10+ years. Othello, Iago, and Neshameh. All 3 are jet black - 2 longhaired toms, and a shorthaired itty bitty girly kitty. They are my babies, are totally spoiled, and very well behaved.

I also have a jet black doggie - and have had him for a year. He was just a little guy when I got him - he's some sort of lab mix. Bodhi is his name. I did NOT want a dog...DID NOT WANT DID NOT WANT!! Neither did the kitties. He was abandoned and scared - so I took him home, intending to rehome him asap. Welll... that first night he cried and cried, so I took him into bed with me hoping to comfort him. While asleep, he had nightmares that caused him to scream in his sleep. It was horrible - but by the next morning, he was perfectly content. No whining, no crying, no fear - he decided he was living with me, he was happy about it, and that was THAT. I just didn't have the heart to re-release him into uncertainty, so I got a dog, who grew into a big dog! Who sheds all over the forking place! Bleah! Anyway, I love him dearly - he is really sweet and *mostly* well behaved (we are still working on perfection!). He makes me laugh every day. He's one of the happiest dogs I've ever seen.

I don't know how the above ties into my candidate choice - but I'm voting KUCINICH in my primary - after that any lever that has a "D" next to it.

22. I like most critters
I like dogs more than cats, but I do like cats. Unfortunately, about one out of every four or five cats will trigger my allergies.

Sometimes it's fun to taunt cat fanciers a little, but I've never been able to understand people who not only hate cats, but cat owners. There are certainly "cat people" who are creepy, but the same thing can be said for folks who raise "macho" dogs like pit bulls and dobermans and attack-train them.

Still, society has a whole list of attributes it assigns to animals. Gadave isn't the first cat fancier who has said "you have to earn their love". My own liking for dogs is based on the fact that most dogs are responsive to human actvity -- and people say that's "want(ing) to love everyone." In reality, I think it's because they have different ways of responding to their environments.

The real test would be to talk to some primatologists, and sound them out about how humans respond to other great apes (and vice-versa). There's also the subject of animals having other animal companions of different species -- chimps "adopting" kittens or puppies, dogs and cats who appear to be devoted to each other, etc.

Anyway, I'm rambling. Before my ability to think goes to the dogs, I need to take a catnap.

23. Pictures of my furchildren!
I'm so excited! I just found a free hosting site for pictures and this will be the first time I've ever posted any pictures of my kids!

The picture of Rufus was taken when he had been living with me for a couple of weeks. He was so tiny when he came home that I could hold him in one hand to give him a bath. My ex-sister-in-law found him waddling in the middle of the street and she brought him to me to see if I wanted to adopt him. It was love at first sight!

25. He's a muttlet!
His mother was a registered rat terrier and his dad was a wandering benjii lookalike.

He's the only dog I've ever had who grew up to look like he's still a puppy. For some reason he hasn't lost his puppiness (is that even a word?) so he still looks like that picture only larger. He's about the size of my cats now and I think he's finished growing since he's 2 years old.
