God Bless America= Freeper?
Uh, I don't think so...

America's unofficial national anthem was composed by an immigrant who left his home in Siberia for America when he was only five years old...

In the fall of 1938, as war was again threatening Europe, Berlin decided to write a "peace" song. He recalled his "God Bless America" from twenty years earlier and made some alterations to reflect the different state of the world. Singer Kate Smith introduced the revised "God Bless America" during her radio broadcast on Armistice Day, 1938.

I'm a Democrat. Always have been. And I'm not afraid to show my love of my country. If singing "God Bless America" during a ballgame helps us remember what is best about this country, if it helps us, even briefly, remember the sense of unity and national purpose we felt on 9/11 before the Bush administration perverted it for partisan gain, then I'm all for it.

Flame away, boys and girls.

1. Not the song, the co-opting of the song BY the NeoCons.
Right after 911.

I'd rather that "GOD" if it exists would bless all of humanity. Calling on the creator of the Universe to "bless" a nation already so far ahead of all the rest in "blessings" smacks of hubris, nes ne pas?

My Canadian relatives find the constant "GodBlessAmericaGodBlessAmericaGodBlessAmericaGodBlessAmericaGodBlessAmerica" amusing in an odd sort of way: they cannot picture their politicians (even Harper) saying "God Bless Canada" at the end of a speech.

3. I'm not that much of a Nationalist anymore.
I look on a lot of our bounty here as "luck of the draw." On top of that, I feel that if God exists, we as a nation are making a big mistake drawing any more of His/Hers/Its attention than absolutely necessary.

If any country was BEGGING for a meteor strike, we are.

4. It has nothing to do with a baseball game. It's just more forced patriotism.

6. I don't believe in god
so, to me, the song is non-sensical.

I am guilty of equating that song with a right-wing mindset when, in reality, god-believing progressives can relate to it as well as any.

7. What's next, we'll sing America the Beautiful in the middle of the 4th Inning?
And then maybe The Battle Hymn of the Republic while the reliever is getting ready, unless you're in the south, then you can sing Dixie....

I stand up for the National Anthem. I go get a beer for he 7th Inning Stretch.

Maybe we can start singing a patriotic song between each quarter of Football Games, it could be a competition between the NFL and MLB to see who is more Patriotic.

In other words, it ain't the song, it's the manufactured patriotism.
