Google logos offend conservatives
Apparently, wingnuts aren't happy that Google commemorated the Sputnik launch with an alteration of its logo:

1. They sure whine a lot don't they?
I think we should just rewrite history and make every invention an American one. That'll show the world!

Edited on Tue Oct-09-07 08:44 AM by Aristus
I don't know about anyone else, but I wouldn't want a solemn occasion like Veterans Day commemorated with a cutesy logo on Google. But maybe that's just me...

And the criticism levelled at Google for censoring themselves in order to continue operations in China is just idiotic. When do conservatives ever complain that China is number 1 on the U.S.' Most-Favored-Nation trading list? Never, that's when.

F*****g hypocrites. :grr::mad:

5. Allow me to respond with a few conservative talking points:
Edited on Tue Oct-09-07 08:49 AM by Richardo
#1) If you don't like it, why don't you start your own search engine and let the market decide?
#2) Given the lack of significant popular outrage, there is apparently a limited market for your version of commemoration art, and Google cannot be faulted for failure to respond - and must be responsive primarily to its stockholders.
#3) Google, as a business entity, should be able to run its business as it sees fit, unfettered by Government regulation or political correctness.

Expecting conservatives to actually practice what they preach! Next thing, you'll expect morality out of them.

11. There are very few times when I want to smack somebody and tell them to shut the hell up.
Unfortunately this is one of them.

Seriously... the cold war has been over for HOW LONG? Russia isn't some big nebulous scary monster under the bed anymore, in fact the Soviet Union doesn't even EXIST anymore. There's nothing wrong with celebrating a big achievement, like the first artificial satellite launched into space.

15. man they are scraping the bottom of the barrel for sources on this one
"It's a kick to your belly," said conservative blogger Giovanni Gallucci, 39, a social media consultant from Dallas...social media consultant? anyone? anyone?

"When they ignore Veterans Day and Memorial Day, I think they're telling us something about the way they view America," said Joseph Farah, editor of WorldNetDaily.com, a conservative website that has criticized Google's logo decisions.

WND?? enough said.

They save the meat of the article for last:
What's more, the company's employees contribute overwhelmingly to Democratic candidates. While the company's new political action committee has given nearly half of its $22,100 in contributions this year to Republicans, 93% of the $141,000 donated by individual employees went to Democrats, according to Federal Election Commission data provided by CQ Moneyline.

So they are trying to sully a corporation by highlighting and criticizing what it's employees do on their own free time with their own damn money. That is spooky. But what pisses me off the most is that this article should have never been written. Those are not sources, they are shills. Has the LA Times completely jumped the shark; do people just slip them some dough to pay for whatever story they want written nowadays...
