1. Sort of a bait-and-switch, there.
Talk of a puppy and no photo? Ooooh, mean.

:)

11. It is easier when they're being still, isn't it?

We love them because they're not completly predictable, so I love "off" photos of animals too.

12. That's when their personalities show!
Now that I can see yours, by the way, he's a cutie!!! I love black and white animals. And probably has some common ancestors with our calmer boy, since they both have the black spots and same white pattern, stripe up the nose and everything.

This is the photo I plan to use for note cards this winter. I was going for an Andy Warhol effect.

They're as thin and soft as gossamer and he holds them aloft through sheer muscle strength.

16. Did you ever read "A Pack of Two" by Caroline Knapp...GREAT BOOK

Caroline Knapp is head over heels in love--not with a human being, but with her mixed-breed dog, Lucille. From the moment Lucille first locked eyes with Knapp through the bars of an animal shelter cage, the intelligent, pointy-eared mutt began to transform Knapp's life. Reeling from the deaths of both her parents, a breakup with a long-term boyfriend, and her newly won sobriety after a 20-year battle with the bottle (which was skillfully chronicled in a previous memoir, Drinking: A Love Story), Knapp found in Lucille not only companionship, but "consistency, continuity, connection. In a word, love." Although she doesn't regard Lucille as a replacement for alcohol and lost loved ones, Knapp does believe "that in loving her I have had that sense of being filled anew and essentially redirected, an old identity shattered and a new one emerging in its stead." In Pack of Two Knapp, with the help of dog psychiatrists, trainers, breeders, and owners, explores the partnership between human and dog and the mysteries of the canine mind--how dogs love, how they think, and how they see human beings. And despite her findings that the dog will remain essentially "mysterious ... unknowable," Knapp is ultimately at peace with this, still devouring the moments when dog and human can "transcend the language barrier" to "understand what the other wants and feels." This book pays homage to the wonderful and complex relationship between one woman and her dog. --Naomi Gesinger --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

14. We never had dogs when I was growing up
but now that all but one of us kids are out of the house, I guess my parents wanted more pitter-patter of little feet and whatnot, so they got a papillion. Then the woman who'd sold them their first decided to give them another one who needed a good home. Then they rescued a third one.

It's funny seeing how different they are, even though the first two are related. The first is tall and slender, he looks like a fluffy miniature jackal. Personality-wise he's calm and friendly, the most well behaved of the bunch. The second, half-brother or cousin or something related to the first, is a different color, has a different kind of fur, short, stocky, and downright neurotic. He was an only pup, and he was put in a few dog shows, so he's used to being the center of attention, and not used to playing with other dogs. The third was the rescue dog, and she's even shorter than the second, still adjusting to people, so she's a little skittish most of the time. But fairly well behaved for a dog that was never socialized with people properly until recently. She was one of MANY dogs (basically her original owner had a few dogs, didn't get them neutered... then didn't get the puppies neutered... and before too long there were 40+ dogs living in one house.), so she knows how to play with the other dogs just fine, but she's just now learning how to deal with people. So they've got one who doesn't know how to deal with people, one who doesn't know how to deal with other dogs, and one who's got both down just fine. :)
