Progressive insurance, your stories.
Please, I am hoping you can all tell me good things about them. If not, that is ok too, I need to hear that too.

I am considering buying car insurance from them.

I got the larger meaning of what you posted, my snarky comment aside, I got it.

2. I have Progressive, and have for a long time.
Their big thing is convenience. They do everything for me, which serves us both well. I've had a couple claims with them in the past couple years (windshields taken out by rock trucks on the highway). No problems, fixed the next day.

Only thing I don't like about them is that they're one of those "your credit score affects your rate" companies. Doesn't bother my wallet, but I think it's unfair to others.

They're also blue, I believe, and their rates are very competitive.

4. They've always been good to me.
No complaints. And when I was in an accident, they were on it. They paid to have my car fixed with no arguments, and my rates haven't increased.

5. My hubby's car was totaled in June
and they paid off his loan quickly, with no problems. We have replaced the car, and have seen only a tiny increase in our premiums. We like Progressive.

6. No complaints so far
Been a member about 2 years. No claims have been made but they have decent rates, good customer service and handy web accesibility.

14. I went with them after Allstate dropped me.
I've had one claim with them, I was rear-ended, totalling the car, the claim was handled quickly and I had a new car within ten days.

17. Quite happy with them so far
But I haven't filed any claims. My last insurance company (Allstate) tried to double my rates after I had a minor fender bender. I'm not kidding. Maybe a couple of hundred dollars in damage tops, and they wanted to bump me up from $1800 to $3600 a year. I had never had an accident before and hadn't had a ticket in over nine years, and all that time I was with Allstate. I was pissed. It was a total slap in the face.

Progressive gave me very favorable rates that have since gone down. So I'm quite happy with them and will do everything possible to steer people clear from Allstate from now on.

21. My fiance is insured by them.
He was rear-ended earlier this year and they were amazing. He got a 2007 Jetta loaner car, everything was handled very smoothly and quickly and we could not have been more pleased. The rates are good, IMO, but the service is top-notch.

22. Bad experience here - felt like they did kind of a bait-and-switch type of thing with us.
Progressive Offered very low rates to suck us in (we switched our cars to them at the time we bought a new one), then the next year the rate went WAY up, and for no reason. No accidents or tickets in the meantime. We dumped them at that point, and went back to GEICO, which welcomed us back with open arms. GEICO said they would count our previous years with them in order for us to qualify for their long-termers discount (a fair-sized discount kicks in after 10 years or so) in spite of the fact that we'd been away from them for 15 months or so. Going back to GEICO was a lot cheaper than staying with Progressive would have been. I was rear-ended a couple of years back, with significant damage to both the rear and front of our van, and was pleased with how GEICO handled the claim. Asshole who hit me, pushing my car into the one in front of me, tried to claim that I had pulled suddenly in front of him, therefore the accident was MY fault. GEICO did a good job of seeking out the truth in spite of Mr Asshole's lies -- and eventually got his insurance company to pay them. I was able to get my car fixed right away.

I was also pleased with how they handled a previous accident - I slid on ice into another car.

23. I worked for them for two years
Edited on Wed Oct-03-07 05:15 PM by Mike03
Not as a claims adjustor but as a transcriptionist, but I got to pore over the files and listen to how each claim was handled. It was a great place to work, and I don't remember too many denied claims unless there was obvious rampant fraud--which was not uncommon in Los Angeles at that time. We had investigators and a Fraud Division that would investigate suspicious claims. Maybe things have changed since I was there, but the insurance used to be somewhat expensive and was offered to people who had past accidents and some risk associated with their driving abilities. While I enjoyed working here, it was just a day job to support my writing. But it was a very enlightened company at that time.

Edit:

At that time Tom Cruise was insured with Progressive, and we had a major claim when his assistant crashed his car. Porsche or Corvette I think, but I can't remember for sure.

25. I've had them for 3 years
Never really had to file a claim or anything.

Everything has been fine with them. I do the automatic withdrawal every month and haven't really had to even think about it for the last3 years. Just how I like it.
