Mine was "The Breakfast Club". I absolutely detested the one dimensional character stereotypes. I thought it was so forced.

1. The English Patient
Hated it so much that I built a time machine and prevented myself from seeing it in the first place.
So in this universe, I haven't seen it.

something drew me to watch it a second time, and then I "got" it and it has become one of my favorite movies. However, my parents despised this film.

204. The NOVEL was great, but the film mangled it...
...and turned it into something more befitting a weak Masterpiece Theatre production. Rest assured that very little of the book was there on screen.

:boring:

I still have not completely forgiven the friends who took me to see it, 13 years later.

32. Right on all accusations!
I did, unfortunately, sit through the entire thing at the request (nay- order) of my ex-wife. Of course, when I started chanting "JUMP, BITCH!!!" at the end when the old woman was going to throw the emerald into the ocean, she probably regretted making me go.

And when I found the girl-band punk-rock cover of "My Heart Will Go On," I annoyed her for DAYS with that... Good times...

You might want to check out IMDb.com.

1) Titanic is just about the only famous epic (and certainly the only Best Picture Oscar winner) to not be in the Top 250, as voted by visitors to that site.

2) Even funnier, I wrote and directed a mock sequel, Titanic II, about five years ago. Believe it or not, my film currently has a user higher rating on IMDb (7.2 versus 7.1) than the original!

I tried making that argument with someone and was told I lacked imagination.

Quite possibly the worst movie ever made (right after Crash).

109. I haven't liked anything Baz Luhrmann has directed.
For instance, in his Romeo and Juliet, our credulity is strained when Claire Danes (Juliet) wants to give up Paris (the gorgeous Paul Rudd) for Romeo (the rat-faced Leonardo DiCaprio).

I have never gotten the charms, such as they are, of Leonardo DiCaprio. Especially as compared to Paul Rudd.

39. Backdraft and Cliffhanger and Dead Man Walking
Backdraft, hubs and I almost got kicked out for laughing so hard... imagining them saying (may as well have).."Yes, these are my grandfathers balls,*points to jar on mantle.. and 'these' are my fathers' balls *points to other jar on mantle.. one day YOUR balls will be on this mantle, too!"..

Cliffhanger, could'nt find anything funny about it.

Dead Man Walking, well, again, we just looked around the theatre and saw "dead audience watching".. We got out of there in time to catch something better.

BTW, good luck to your Phillies. I was ecstatic to see them pull out the division - not out of love for them or hatred of the Mets, but just because I'm too young to remember 1964 and always wanted to see a collapse like that. Sure, 1978 was fun and all, but that was slow and gradual. The Mets imploded over 17 days, and I was rooting for Philly like mad. It's the only real passion I've felt for baseball since the Expos moved.

It's a very complex movie, and I agree with you about the portrayal of the character played by Ricci, but in that third act, when Theron has that breakdown at the bus stop, I had to admit that was one of the best moments of acting I had ever seen. I've watched that portion of the film over and over again, just with pure admiration for that performance. But the film is not a very pleasant viewing experience.

Anemic story built around two utterly loathsome characters - the "tragic" girl being the far worse of the two. Huh? We were supposed to feel for her? We were not supposed to applaud the ending? Sorry, must have missed the memo. I remain baffled as to how this piece of drivel became a cult classic.

I thought this was the most childish film in the world. There were a couple of hilarious scenes, but the premise was like a teen-wants-to-get-laid flick and the first act was interminable. It also glorified alcoholism and rampant stupidity.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Only Terry Gilliam movie that I hated profusely, just a senseless mess. I guess because I never did drugs I don't really belong to the club that relates to this one.

Both Kill Bills.
Pulp Fiction. Eccccch. Too wordy, frat-boy-deep, has no shelf life. I hate Uma Thurman, Johnny Scientology is a douche and Amanda Plummer is over-the-top annoying. I'm sick of the whole "F bombs, beatdowns and bloodshed" shit. Are people completely incapable of making a good action/drama without that?

Anything by Kevin Smith with the possible exception of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

Donnie Darko and Fight Club (I didn't really HATE them per se, I just don't think they're the greatest thing since sliced bread like all of their fans do).

The Big Lebowski. Is it a "high" thing?

Magnolia. Tommy One Note once again ruins an otherwise good movie.

Most smug, ultra-deadpan Wes Anderson-ish movies with actors like Chloe Sevigny and Jason Schwartzman in them.

Natural Born Killers. CHRIST! Unrealistic Ollie Stone Kleenex-leavins. Woody from Cheers and a 90-pound twig miraculously have Navy Seal/Krav Maga fighting skills and beat up everybody, even with snake venom in them, make trained police officers seem like Keystone Kop amateurs and escape. Bullshit bullshit BULLSHIT. The thing I hated the most was Juliette Lewis' character. Was the annoyance factor turned up about 10 notches on that one? Who could even WATCH that?

Traffic, Crash and 21 Grams. Let's amend this - I didn't think the MOVIEs so much sucked, I found the female performances in these to be over-the-goddamned-top ANNOYING as fuck-all and because of them, completely ruined each film. Since when did "Oscar worthy" for females mean acting like repellent bitchy shrews?

Mean-spirited, punching-bag main character movies such as There's Something about Mary, Meet the Parents, Kingpin, etc. And I see that Ben Stiller made yet ANOTHER one of these. Sigh.

Movie scenes where Will Farrell chews scenery like a cow.

American Beauty. I'm sorry, but was I supposed to relate to ANY of those oversmug repellent people?

Joy Luck Club. No joy or luck in that club. You'd need six pounds of Adderol for this one.

It never ceases to amaze me how strong, attractive women are reduced to piles of quivering insecurities over some, quite frankly, loser, whom they've usually met through online dating. I can't judge them too harshly though, I myself went through way too much for way too long with someone for whom the word "sociopath" would be a compliment. After that, no more "clueless jerks" for me. :)

210. I kept thinking...
..."If that's what he does to plate glass windows and bathroom fixtures whenever he feels disrespected, what is he going to do to her if she ever corrects him or laughs because he made a vocabulary mistake?"

:scared:

Seriously, I know it was supposed to be a "happy" ending because they stayed together, but I kept feeling like the sequel, if any, would feature his character's trial, a la O.J., Robert Blake, Phil Spector...

i don't need to see any more films about rich white people indulging full time in their obsessive compulsiveness

i think wes anderson & his fans should be corralled into a special holy shrine somewhere so as to protect the rest of humanity

230. Oh where do I even begin to go into the litany of things so very wrong
with that movie.

One thing I never got and was a basic flaw in the movies premise and logic was this:

If people are basically batteries for this "alien" race and the "alien" race chooses to create a "fake" reality so the battery people can live a "normal life", that sounds pretty nice of them in a Nietzsche sort of way. They could have not been nice and not had any "reality" at all and could have just left the humans as mindless battery blobs.

Also, given the alternative of living in squaller in the "real" world or having a reasonably normal life in the "fake" world. give me the fake one.

I want the blue pill, thank you very much.

I could go on and on but from that basic point, all other short coming blossom from that point.

Damn, I thought I was the only one getting motion sickness.

first one was well shot, well paced and well edited.

Then the next two imploded. that "shaky cam" crap has got to go. I first witnessed it on "NYPD Blue". Hated it then.

In the second one, the editing was god damn awful, I could follow half of the action scenes.

In the third one, they toned it down a bit, but still it was awful.

the director of the first one was Doug Liman. He directed Swingers and Go.

The next two were directed by Paul Greengrass nothing I ever heard of except United 93

124. Story about "The Big Lebowski"...
Our neighbors have a movie night every other Saturday in June, July, August and September. They have a video projector and project them on a screen in their backyard, and anyone can come to them. The mid-September one was "The Big Lebowski" and I warned them about the language in it, but they said nothing and still showed it. The last movie the other night was "Moonstruck" and I overheard people talking about the showing of "The Big Lebowski." About 30 people had shown up but only 4 were left when the movie ended.

It avoided the Hollywood ending. Remember his 12 on the 18th when it was birdie to win and par to tie?

Cheech Marin was awesome and had the best lines:

Posar: Now THAT was a defining moment. And the definition was shit.

Posar: Well, David Simms may be a "soulless robot", but he's a rich, happy, soulless robot with a beautiful doctor lady girlfriend. Besides, how's getting in the Open going to change what she thinks about you?
Roy: Well, it'll show her that I'm not who she thinks I am.

Big Lebowski - not completely awful, but not as funny as I expected. Overrated.

Punch Drunk Love - put me to sleep...didn't make it to the ending.

I simply hated both movies. I cannot give a coherent reason. As Good As It Gets made me angry and E.T. annoyed me.

I did not get the "genius" of that movie. I kept hearing people talk about "genius" when they were talking about that movie, but all I saw was a dimwitted dude talking about life as if it was edible.

The movie tried to make a statement of some kind but I couldn't get past the amazingly inaccurate premise.

also for some reason I can't stand Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise, Jim Carrey (except Liar Liar), Ben Stiller, Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon...if they are in it I won't see it.

214. The Boondock Saints...
I realize that not everybody liked that comic-book-like paean to vigilante justice, but if even one person does, it's too many. Made by a genuine egotistical asshole who screwed over his own brother to make it, and whose philosophy of life is quoted as "the only real question is whether or not we have the guts to kill the bad guys," this is the sort of thing that would logically be a Freeper's dream movie.

They all sucked out loud. They were so boring. And Tom Cruise is dreadful. I thought he was terrible even before he revealed himself to be a walking freak show.
