some of my favorite DU writers
Edited on Fri Jan-30-04 07:11 AM by sweetheart
I am just introducing a friend to DU, and i've just made a small list of writers i recommend always reading... and geez, its quite hard, as i'm sure i've left out ones i really like... so please don't be offended, or perhaps you'll be quite happy not to be admired by sweetheart... c'est la vie.

Here goes:
arendt, butterflyblood, AP, globaljustice, Liberal<several all good>
Cleita, Spentastic, DuctapeFatwa, kentuck, opihimoimoi, ulysses,
whocountsthevotes, beetwasher, TahitiNut, buddhamama, zombywoof,
diamondsoul, nothingshocksmeanymore, Terwilliger, DesertRose,
IrateCitizen, Magic Rat, LWolf, Iverson, nolabels, hippiewife,
IndianaGreen, Organism, muriel_volestrangler, CWebster, beanfartinthewoods, thankfully in britain, TruthisAll
DemBones DemBones, Eloriel, BEFOREATHOUGHT, Nancy Waterman (outstanding astrologer), Lydia Leftcoast, dwickham, dsc, JanMichael,
SoCalDem, Code_name_D, tinoire, goobergunch, youngred, drdigi420,
HEYyHEY, MustBfree, Sterling, <several all good>truth

Certainly there are 35,000 writers registered at DU, and these are just a handful... but between them real spreaders of light and goodwill.

2 banned authors i miss: jiacinto and redeye

To the writers on the list, you've all been profoundly inspiring over these past years of darkness. Thank you.

22. yes
but its my list. I did include liberal historian
by what i wrote liberal<several>.

arwalden i read sometimes. The other ones may be glaring omissions, but i pass them in the night, as they do me. I like "wonk's" moniker.

Arendt is my vote for outstanding writer of DU, and by that bellweather, how long should the list be?

Also, as i hang more in GD, than elsewhere, i get less face time with the lounge. :) Rabrrrr is someone i like in the lounge, but i spend less than 5% of my time on DU in the lounge.

Always nice to be noticed and appreciated.

Here's a 15 year Laphroig, served apparently in a pint mug, back to ya:  (but, golly, don't drink it so fast)

12. its quite a challenge
Imagine introducing you're best mate to DU. They come back to you and say, geez, there'z sooooo many writers, what do you like about it... and then i realize that i'm pretty familiar with a good many of the writers, and that i discriminate between them.

Just i realize how politically incorrect it is to say you like "one" as it implies you don't like another, yet dammit, without that discrimination, DU can be a dammn site more difficult you use, as you spend a lotta time missing good stuff.

Because it is SOooo politically incorrect, i could not resist taking the list out of the email to my friend and telling y'all. It is hardly good politics to do so, but then again, i'm terrible for politics. ;} Politicians tell everyone they like them all, even when its a lie.

I did not put down Elad or Skinner, notice. Its not because i don't respect them. Clearly were i trying to win points on DU, i would have put down the "gods". Rather i see it as "underground" and by heralding those whom i believe reach inside their hearts to inspire us all to the truth, that i indirectly herald them.

In truth, i have incredible respect for everyone with a "star" by their name on DU, especially those who try to write, no matter what they say, as speaking out is brave, beautiful and noble, as even in being wrong and asinine (as jiacinto often was) the interplay with those folks is a learning experience.

peace,

8. Whenever anyone would question the death penalty
He'd respond by saying we endorse/enable/defend rape/murder/terrorism/whatever. When pointed that this is a straw man, he'd just stop responding and then start spouting the same BS in other strand of the thread. And on and on and on.

15. what list?.. oh! that one.
:) Is there a list? Perhaps there is, though i don't see it as one. Armstead i forgot to put.

I think the composite list between what others have replied on this thread, makes a pretty complete "get to know" DU author list for a beginner to become inspired. The likelihood of inspiring, heartfelt goodwill and challenging intellectual vigour is 100%.

On pondering it, i would not mind having some sort of accumulated rating score for each author. It would inspire the folks who really make an effort to write well, and give people feedback, beyond "kick", on how their work is read. Over time, such a scoring system would serve as a reward for those who really put the energy in to DU, as postcount is hardly a measure.

namaste,
sweetheart :loveya:

18. probably its me
:) I've not gotten to know you. If you sincerely want to be on the list, then "voila" you're on it. Now you have a reputation to live up to. ;)

Also, your moniker is hard for me to identify out of the corner of my eye as i can't read number/letter combinations. Likely i've missed many folks with what i think are difficult monikers. If i wanted to be very anonymous on DU, i'd use a name like 8ue31426... even after seeing it a gazillion times, its easily forgotten... compare this to NNNOLHI, an unforgettably strange moniker.

Some folks hang out in threads and forums (like the lounge, or campaign bickering 2004) where i don't see much of them. Also, as timezones work, i'm on GMT, and the pacific coast/hawaii/japan is sleep-time for me. That influences certainly, as active chat with pcoast seldomly happens from the UK unless odd hours are kept.

29. To be honest
i seldom read those writers, although they are clearly massively popular.

I'm tired of reading about fucked up voting machines, though i am unworthy next to BevHarris I readily confess.

Something that skews my opinion and makes me not a good judge of "general popularity" is that i'm not in the USA, and don't watch television.

People who write using alusions to mass media, especially television, are incomprehensible and its my fault...

32. Hey, no problem!
Far as I'm concerned, you're welcome at DU! :pals:

I rarely watch TV myself. As such, the only threads of that sort in which I participate tend to be about the so-called "classic" TV shows of the 1970s, when I was still a regular viewer.

As for voting machines, I can understand why you might grow weary of the topic, but as Bev Harris has so brilliantly proven, those black box machines can (and undoubtedly will) subvert the American democratic process. That's a very real concern for people in the U.S.A!

Finally, may I ask what country you live in? Just curious.

In the remote highlands by the ocean. http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/bettyhill/bettyhill/index.html

I realize how critical the voting machines are. "The economist" had an excellent article about how they're likely to contribute to florida style election fraud in the coming polls... citing examples of already boffed up elections in indiana and other places where the machines were clearly defective.
