INCREASING PROBLEM: Swedes have more and more animal sex

Animal sex is not illegal in Sweden, and every year between 200 and 300 pets are injured because of sexual assaults.

The estimate was presented by Svenska Veterinärforbundet, the Swedish veterinary organization, and it is now trying to make the authorities and the public more aware of animals’ suffering. The organization claim the problem has increased during the last couple of years, even if most people are unaware of it.

“We have seen an increase since 1999 when child pornography became illegal,” said Johan Beck-Friis. “It appears, in other words, as there are some people who have replaced children with animals. In both circumstances, it is sex with defenceless individuals.”

I have to be serious here, for just a moment, folks, though I understand the need for a little humor after reading something so horrendous....

I can't, for the life of me, understand how anyone could want to do anything but sincerely love and care for these wonderful animals that want nothing more than to serve us. If anyone were to hurt my pets, I'm not sure I could restrain myself. That might be the one time, I COULD kill.

14. the only case I've known personally

... well, to be accurate, *professionally* ... was a patient in the secure forensic ward of the local psychiatric hospital where I was on a law school placement.

He was a student from Vietnam at a Canadian university who had been found with a sheep in his dormitory room. He was charged with cruelty to an animal -- I believe the sheep had to be euthanized, although I don't know why (lack of food/water?).

He was a seriously disturbed kid. I remember him explaining his art-therapy work to me: a giant clock, showing the times when he ate lunch, read a book, "was happy" -- pretty obsessive. He was also obviously very isolated, socially. Lord only knows how this all manifested in going out and acquiring a sheep and having sex with it, but we maybe should have awarded the sheep some sort of posthumous recognition for (involuntarily) averting whatever else he might have done.

I don't doubt there are some people for whom such things are, like, "sexual experimentation" rather than completely insane behaviours, but I think even they would have to be bordering on psycopathy, devoid of empathy, capable of enormous rationalization. Like pedophiles who insist that they love their victims and their victims enjoy it.
