Austin DUers...dinner before BBV meeting tonight (1/29)

Hey Austin DUers - just wondering who all was going to the BBV meeting tonight. If you haven't heard about it go here:

Anyway, GOPisEvil and I are getting together before the meeting to eat and shott the breeze and thought we'd invite anyone else who wants to come along. We'll be at EZ's at 3918 North Lamar at 6:30 tonight. (The meeting starts at 8pm so that should be plenty of time to eat and talk and get ready to raise hell.)

The Travis County Green Party is co-sponsoring a forum on the benefits and drawbacks of electronic voting. Come be informed and ask questions!

Speakers are:

Dana DeBeauvoir, Travis County Clerk (runs elections)

Dan Wallach, Rice University prof., electronic voting software expert, co-authored the original report on Diebold software, dubbed the Hopkins report

Ann McGeehan, Secretary of State's office (certifies voting machines)

12. I wanna eat dinner with ADU crew, but I can't

(ADU=Austin DU'ers) or should it be DUA (DU Austin) That sounds too close DUI, driving under the influence.

I'm helping out at the event tonight so I can't meet you DUers for dinner, unfortunately. Have to help set up in advance. Have a great dinner and get yourself nice and riled up. Ask some questions at the forum okay. Make sure you mention diebold many times, use the Wally O'Dell quote in Ohio, and the NY Times story on unsecured voting by the overseas military. Pull out all the big guns.

And oh, oh, oh someone please remember to ask about write in candidates. For those of you who had not heard, there are some of us trying to organize a write in candidacy for Lloyd Doggett in District 10 (there are no Democrats that filed in this race) and District 21 (Lamar Smith- repuke will win this one). This is not an official campaign action, it is more of a protest vote. If you are an Austinite or resident of Travis who was formerly represented by Lloyd Doggett and find you now have no representation, write his name in on the ballot.

I bet I'd have to cough up $50 to replace it, knowing the state and its contracts.

BTW, I use my own keyboard and mouse. The ones the state gave me were huge POSs.

33. Mine aren't so bad.

My big complaint is with how they set up my cubicle. I'm right-handed but the electrical outlets are all on my left. Which means the CPU has to sit on my left. Which means the cables for my mouse and keyboard both get tangled up in my feet all the damn time. Grr.

I'm trying to get over to our new home and see if the cubes over there resemble the cages at Gitmo or not. Moving in May. So long lovely view of the parking lot.

but then my boss got a stick up her butt about rearranging the office. I lost a wall and any sense of privacy. A person who didn't really deserve it got a bigger cubicle when the plans didn't match what they actually built. And we lost our microwave.
