A short story that I hesitated to post....
...cause it seems almost "to perfect" But I swear is true.

I fix computers and am also a network engineer (Microsoft Certified and all that..)
Anyway, 6 days ago I made 7 service calls and received 6 checks for my work. In the course of fixing peoples computers, people often talk about "stuff" and usually politics....so I normally get an earful of what they feel about our president (Resident) etc.

Out of the 6 people who gave me checks, I remember 2 that were strongly Pro Bush and rather Right Wing. I, of course, keep my opinions to myself...Hey, I'm, no dummy!

Well, I made the mistake of putting the checks in my shirt pocket, going home and doing laundry....yep...I washed the damned things...AGGG!

So...I had to call my customers back and meekly ask them to write me another check.
Take a wild, wild guess who I've talked to 5 times and who has "put me off" on writing another check. They both have made every excuse in the book and one even said "that's kind-of your fault".
In short, every time I think I might be to hard on right-wingers they prove why I have such loathing for them...
It's not only depressing but sad that some folks can be such pricks...sigh...

1. Well, they do have a point...
It is your fault.

However, it's not like it was intentional. You did a service for them and you should get paid for it. I could understand if they charged you for having to cancel the check (most banks charge quite a bit to cancel one...I know because I forgot to cash my work check once and had to pay like $25 to cancel it) but to not pay you for your work is just wrong.

..something like "ah, no problem...when do you want to stop by and get another check" or "I'll leave the check in the mailbox"

I mean, I've been doing this for years and have a great reputation for being fair and kind to folks.
Maybe, I'm just being to sensitive..

4. Too sensitive...
Not at all!

As I said, they could ask you to pay for stop payment on the check. I don't think they SHOULD, but they could.

They're being arrogant jerks. You are definitely NOT wrong. Sometimes it's just hard to be good to people.

Just because they refused to pay what they owed...

Btw I think this is serious.. I can't understand how you just laugh it off..

If someone refused to pay me for work I did I'd get even in one way or another.

screwed us in one way or the other. I'm gonna' give them another call and if they still want to be such hard-asses, I'll just spread the word....

The next time they have computer problems they can haul the damn thing down to Best Buy and get charged twice as much as what they should be charged...

11. I can just picture them,
teaching Sunday School because I would bet that they are good, honest, god-fearing !American! Christians, talking about fairness and love your neighbor to the little kiddies, telling them about Jesus and his parables and stories, and how they should work hard and be honest and diligent......
