What is the going rate for babysitters these days?

Our daughter is 4 1/2 now and we have not really used a babysitter for her before, other than my mom.

However, she lives 30-35 minutes away and it's not very convenient if my wife & I just wanted to go to a movie, or out to a nice restaurant, by ourselves.

The area I live in has a ton of kids, and plenty of teenaged girls looking to make extra cash. So, I just wanted to find out about what people pay these days?

1. I remember my daughter

says she gets between 8 - 10 dollars per kid per hour.

But that's relative I guess. The financial situations of the kids she babysits for are different. Her next door neighbors are younger and she doesn't get as much (probably 30 for a nite) as she does for the neighbors across the street (60 - 70 per nite).

2. depends on your area

around here (st louis suburbs), my daughter gets $4-5 per hour, with additional kids extra.

3. There's a big variation.

An experienced sitter is going to cost more, but your daughter will probably have a better time.

4. In our area high school kids get $5/hr and college kids/adults get $8-$10/hr
