I've been boycotting the whole medium of television for about 4 years now. I'm now better informed than most of my community and my kid seems to be just fine growing up without it. By the way a group called adbusters (www.adbusters.org) has been trying to get anti-corporate ads on the air for several years now. This problem is much bigger than just CBS and the super bowl. Remember - they are OUR airwaves.

In fact, the most exposure I've had to football is the 1980s video for "Super Bowl Shuffle" by whatever team that was. MoveOn asked its members and others to do one of those insta-fax deals, sending a fax telling CBS that you are against their decision.

In response, over a quarter million faxes were sent. Senators Wyden and Durbin have gotten directly involved. Over 20 members of the House of Reps sent letters.

For those of you who are interested, if you go to the MoveOn main page, there are links right there that will allow you to join the fax party.

I'm definitely boycotting, even though my boss is going to invite me over on Sunday, I'll have to decline.

For those of you who think it's just a drop in the bucket...well, enough drops will fill up that bucket. In my opinion, CBS is playing favorites on the Grand Scale. I think they need to pay attention to the swing in public opinion that is occuring...status quo ain't gonna cut it in 2004.

And if Maker's Mark turns out to be a Major Republican donor this year, I'm going to have to give up my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE whiskey...sacrifices must be made. (I actually don't know where they stand, but I'm going to try and find out.)

I must admit though that there are other reasons: #1 the niners aren't in, #2 none of the other teams I root for are in it, and #3 my partner and I broke up and I haven't been able to watch football hardly at all this year because we used to have such a good time watching it and I couldn't take the memories. I'm going on a movie binge with a friend down in Long Beach for the day to take my mind off of things. To tell you the truth, I don't care who wins and I'm not proud to be an American anymore and football is such an American sport....
