German TV show host is fired for admiring "family values" of Nazi Germany
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070910/od_nm/germany_television_nazi_odd_dc;_ylt=AvEqxe40L7B0bY.lZsBqnmHtiBIF
BERLIN (Reuters) - A German public television network Sunday sacked a popular talk show host and former news presenter after she had praised the Nazi's family policies at a news conference for her new book on child-rearing.

NDR television program director Volker Herres said on the NDR website the network had fired Eva Herman, 48, with immediate effect for her comments "that we deemed to be incompatible to her role as a television presenter and talk show host."

Herman, who was a news presenter for the network's flagship "Tagesschau" news program for 18 years to 2006, has also hosted several other talk shows on NDR.

While presenting her book "Das Prinzip Arche Noah - warum wir die Familie retten muessen" (Arche Noah principle - why we must save the family), she said family values that were nurtured in the Nazi era were cast away by the turmoil of the late 1960s.

"It was a horrible time with a manic and dangerous leader who led the Germans into ruin as we all know. But there was at the time also something good, and that is the values, that is the children, that is the families, that is a togetherness -- it was all abolished, there was nothing left," Herman said.

Herman could not immediately be reached for comment.

2. Sending your children into the Hitler Jugend and narking on your parents was good family values?
Man, even in Germany the rightwing nutcases are fucking nutcasey.

4. Not much of a student of history
Girls in Nazi Germany were encouraged to become impregnated by "Aryan" soldiers - without being married - to further the "race."

Some family values. :eyes:

5. Like Goebbels family values?
The Nazi propaganda minister Josef Goebbels had a very high-profile affair with a Czech actress. This annoyed the swastikas out of his boss for a couple of reasons: one, it showed the rampant hypocrisy of the Nazi bigwigs. And then of course, Hitler had big plans for Czechoslovakia, so it just wouldn't do for his propaganda minister to be canoodling with one of the Untermenschen.

But compared to his wife Magda, even Josef Goebbels looks saintly. In the last hours of the Nazi regime, with the Red Army closing in on Hitler's bunker where she had moved to be closer to her idol, Magda Goebbels cold-bloodedly poisoned all 6 of her young children.

Altogether, the Nazis were a big bust on family and moral values. Off the top of my head:

--Like his father, Hitler had an affair with a niece. She killed herself. He only married Eva Braun hours before their mutual suicide.

--Luftwaffe chief Hermann Goering was a drug addict who moved his second wife into a house named for his (dead) first wife. Goering also personally stole as much European art as possible.

--The supposedly most loyal and fanatical Nazi of all, SS/Gestapo chief Heinrich Himmler, spent the last days of the Reich frantically trying to cut a deal with the Allies.

--The boss of the Brownshirts, the SA, was the flagrantly homosexual Ernst Roehm. Hitler had him killed in the 1934 "Night of the Long Knives."

--That charming practice of impregnating German women with SS officers etc. was a blight on Germany that lasted for decades and is still ongoing. After Germany lost the war, the children from the Lebensborn homes were shuttled to orphanages or foster homes where everyone knew exactly where they had come from. "Scarred for life" is probably too mild a term.

History geeks can think of a lot more hypocrisy, I'm sure...

6. The SA were known as the "Beefsteaks"
The were the communist wing of the Nazi Party. Hitler had them killed because he feared communist.

14. There was no communist wing of the Nazi Party
The SA represented another pole of power within the Nazi movement and were eliminated in favour of the SS. There was however a wing of the Nazi Party that held ideas of racial welfarism, a mixture of racial nationalism and wealth redistribution; but these ideas were considered too left-wing for Hitler and he eliminated their proponents.
