The Macbook Pro IS the perfect computer
Edited on Tue Sep-11-07 02:29 PM by jasonc
There is nothing this cant do. It is powerful, portable, and just plain perfect. I cant imagine it better, unless of course apple wants to give me a flash based HDD that will last as long as a standard HDD.

9. you would think that
the sheer awesomeness of it would motivate them to go get a job so they could buy one, instead it makes them want to steal it cause it costs them nothing to do that. So, because of that, I leave it at home.

6. Dunno about Macs, but a reasonable non-mac PC costs $700.
dual core Intel 1.73 gig CPU, 1GB RAM (upgrade to 2GB for $80), solid 15.4" display (or a usable 17" display that's usable but not stellar), 160GB hard drive, 3 hour battery life (2 if you use wi-fi the way I never would)...

Give or take $100 for various features, but anything under $600 I would avoid...

21. For grins and giggles I priced out a Dell with similar specs to Apple's
least expensive Macbook pro ($1999), the Dell was less expensive, but not by much, it came in at $1908.

31. Dell's suck
I'm a former Mac guy that's recently gone to PC's because I'm back in school studying IT. So I'm not going to come out and say all PC's are bad, even though I do like Macs better. But Dell's are the runt of the PC world. They break easily and their outsourced tech support sucks.

Edited on Tue Sep-11-07 03:33 PM by jasonc
depending on speed, hdd size, etc..

but, and dont let Hypnotoad sell you a pc laptop, a SIMILARLY equipped PC laptop will cost the SAME!

A lower spec PC will, obviously, cost less.

in this thread.

Find me a comparably equipped PC laptop for less...

and yes, I am sure a flash based HDD would make it cost more, as it would also make a PC laptop cost more.

Trust me, if I could justify another computer right now, it would be a 17" Macbook Pro, with a 7200rpm drive and the higher resolution screen. Sweetness!

you do know the higher res screen is NOT LCD dont you?

personally, I think the 17 is too big, the 15 is perfect, especially because you can plug it INTO a larger external monitor if you want.

28. I have to admit, I absolutely love mine. It took me a long time to switch to a laptop
but the macbook pro can do everything I need it to do with no problems. I hooked up a huge monitor and wacom tablet to it for when I'm doing serious design work. But the rest of the time, it's so easy to cart around anywhere. I'm really glad I opted for the 15" model, because it's so freaking portable. And it's not like the 17" would be large enough for me to work on without another monitor anyway. So I get the best of both worlds.

It's funny to me how attached I've gotten to my computer. I tripped while carrying it and dropped on the floor, and I think my heart stopped for a full minute. It was fine, I wasn't. LOL! The only thing is the case got a little warped so it's kinda like a cafe table where you have to stick a folded up piece of paper under on leg. But all the functions were completely unaffected. Phew!

30. Thank goodness for that. And thank goodness I dropped it on the only
carpeted area of my whole house. It just feels so weird and terrifying to drop something you spent $2000+ buying. A desktop model sure wouldn't survive that.

The best part is being able to curl up in my favorite chair with my cat sitting next to me and be able to write emails and surf. So much better than sitting at my desk.

32. been using the same Mac for 6 years now
Still works as good as day one. In that time I upgraded the processor, RAM, Hard Drives, Drive I/O card, Graphics Cards, USB, & monitors. Not bad for a machine that "can't be upgraded".

I really want an Intel Mac Pro but they won't come down in price! :(

37. I could ask for a sturdier keyboard and trackpad button. I've had both replaced
within six months of buying mine.

Other than that though, it's been a great computer for me. Even got me to admit that OSX isn't as horrible as I thought it would be.

(I have the 17-ich one. What a screen!)

Not having to worry about viruses is, by itself, worth having a Mac, but I love its functionality too.
