What is there to see in Seattle, with an infant?
Not a trick question.

I am accompanying my wife on her business trip to Seattle on Wednesday. We are staying in a downtown hotel, and I am in charge and care of our 5-month old adopted daughter. She is quite portable, agreeable, and generally non-fussy, except at meal time, which we provide, of course.

I have been there before, about 14 years ago, but spent most of my time out exploring the Olympic peninsula, which is gorgeous. Incredible beaches and scenery.

So, what is recommended from those of you in the area?

Much thanks.

1. this is a great time of year for Seattle
although it hasn't been very warm here this year (my heat came on a few time in *August* unbelievable) - so pack a sweater.

downtown there's the Pike Place Market, the Seattle Aquarium, & the Art Museum. Myrtle Edwards Park is nice for a stroll along the waterfront. The Space Needle is actually okay for breakfast, it's not as expensive as their lunch or dinner menus (and it's hard to mess up breakfast) and the view is spectacular.

The Argosy Tours is a nice boat tour if you like that sort of thing. DON'T take that damn 'Duck' thing though!

What sort of things are you interested in? There's plenty to do here...

2. The market's fun for a baby, lots to see
A ride to nowhere in particular on the ferry can be fun, and doesn't cost much for a foot passenger. Seattle Center is fun on a nice day. The Pacific Science Center there is a hands-on museum for kids, and they have an indoor butterfly garden you can walk around in and see butterflies flying all over.

3. if it's nice out, check out the Olympic Sculpture Park
it's beautiful and free. our 3 year old loves it. nice wide paths if you're using a stroller.

The Aquarium is very nice (according to MrsCoffee, i haven't been yet)

I'd second the suggestion of the ferry ride from Seattle to Bainbridge Island. It's less than an hour round trip, and the view of the city and Mt. Rainier (on a nice day) can't be beat.

4. Ride the Ducks!

Amphibious WWII landing vehicles with wacky hosts make for a great tour. They go on the streets and in Lake Union. Fun!! Quack!!

6. I have not been on a Duck but...
they've passed me by several times. The Ducks are very noisy -- some guy on a loudspeaker going on and on. I think the noise would be unpleasant to a 5 month old baby, although great for older children.

7. I'd go to Pike's Place Market or the Seattle Center.
There are lots of things to occupy you and the baby should be comfortable. You can also hop on the bus (careful, they overflow with people) and go someplace farther. However, if I were in your position, I'd walk up to the market or maybe check out Pioneer Square.
