So, I'm building this guitar...

It has a light-colored (maple) fingerboard. I was thinking about using stain to write something on the fingerboard. You know how the old time country guys used to inlay their names on the fingerboard? Like that, but I was thinking of putting something of a political nature on it.

Any ideas? It would have to be something that wouldn't become dated. No names. It would have to be short. Something like a short quote, maybe. Woody Guthrie had "this machine kills fascists." That might be a little long for a f'board, I think.

"Dissent is patriotic", works well if you've got some erm.. partisan lyrics.
You could do a stylized flag with a peace sign instead of stars, I've got a patch of one on my backpack. Or just a peace sign, thats become rather political on its own.

Going with the language theme you could put an appropriate conjugation of "Liber" Latin for "to free" cause in Latin you put some very specific person and direction on the verb. (You could just put "Liber" but that also means "book" and thats a funny name for a guitar...)
Do you have any pet issues?
You could put a Pro-Union slogan on it.
You could dedicate it "For the People"
The first few words of an important speech. Or document. "We the people…"
Would you put a name on it if that person was dead? I mean a dead persons not gonna support something you don't like.
Not many anarchist here, but they've got some militant slogans that are damn clear.


On Edit: I have to go, I monopolized the computer last night and I have to let other people on now, I'll be back tomorrow, all day, no work. And spelling.
So thats the stuff that I though of while at work. Work is damned boring and requires very few brain cells, so I usualy think about stuff. Thinking up slogans was fun.

I'm not going to suggest anything to write on your guitar, but could you post a picture of it? Is it electric or acoustic? Sorry, but I love guiitars. Especially custom/hand made ones. I wish I had the right combination of interest/talent/patience to build one for myself.

Write whatever "message" makes you feel good about the guitar. Nobody can decide what that is except you.
