Yesterday, September 5, Apple reduced the retail price on its 8GB iPhone from $599 to $399. Apple has a price guarantee policy that if Apple reduces the price on its products within 14 days of your purchase, you are able to request a refund for the difference in the purchase price. From their policy:

Pricing
Should Apple reduce its price on any Apple-branded product within fourteen (14) calendar days of the date of purchase, you may request a refund of the difference between the price paid and the current selling price. An original purchase receipt is required, and you must request your refund within fourteen (14) calendar days of the price reduction.

I purchased my iPhone on September 4 (I *love* it, by the way!) and a coworker alerted me to the price reduction. I went to my local Apple Store today and was refunded the $200 difference plus sales tax.

Again, if you purchased the 8GB iPhone at its $599 price in the last two weeks, go get your refund! Don't wait!

1. I'd hate to be one of those people who HAD to get one that first day.
Honestly, I will never understand that. Waiting in line for days and all that.

I have a Motorola phone that does everything an iPhone does. Cost me $50.00.

Wierd.

3. No kidding.
I would have been really upset if the price reduction had occurred outside of my 14-day window.

4. Excellent post, by the way.
I'm sure the price reduction was timed to exclude the initial wave of purchases from the 14 day window. Hard for me to believe how Jobs keeps fooling all the true believers.

6. Thank you
I definitely thought it was important to get the word out. It's not like Apple's going to advertise this or anything... :)

5. To all iPhone customers
http://www.apple.com/hotnews/openiphoneletter/

Therefore, we have decided to offer every iPhone customer who purchased an iPhone from either Apple or AT&T, and who is not receiving a rebate or any other consideration, a $100 store credit towards the purchase of any product at an Apple Retail Store or the Apple Online Store. Details are still being worked out and will be posted on Apple's website next week.

iPhone price cut dials up angry reaction
http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/technology/article2398965.ece

Apple has slashed the price of its iPhone by a third in the United States, only two months after the flagship gadget’s launch.

The move has sparked complaints from angry customers who bought iPhones at the original selling price. It has also failed to impress investors, who sent Apple shares down sharply on fears that sales of the much-hyped gadget are failing to live up to the company's expectations.
