does the 16gb iPod touch mean a
16gb iPhone in the near future?

I sure hope so, that and 3g would make me buy a new one.

2. I have the 'classic' ipod as they now call it
and am 3 months away from being out of my contract with the cell phone people. then I will buy my unlocked phone from amazon.

I dont think that I want the new 'touchy' one. My screen on the video ipod is scratched enough as it.

will have the same screen as the iPhone, which I own, and it does not scratch like iPod screens past.

5. Absolutely, the screen is like the glass on high quality watches.
It can take a lot of abuse before it scratches. Some people are reporting they keep their iPhones in their pockets, together with keys, change, etc, and have no problems with scratching. I have a screen-protector on mine, though, just in case.

4. Apple never comment on upcoming products.
So your guess is as good as ours. It seems likely that a 16GB model will come out fairly soon, however. The $200 price cut on the 8GB model that has early adopters up in arms looks like a move to make way for a new top-of-the-range model. 32GB flash memory is still too expensive, so I'm betting on a 16GBer.

I'm skeptical about it having 3G, because the AT&T network still doesn't support it in enough places to make it worthwhile. Personally, I think Apple made a mistake tying themselves to those turkeys for five years.

6. Here is the deal
Steve Jobs said that there would be an iPhone in Europe within 9 months, which would mean there would have to be a 3g iPhone to get any of the large european cell companies to take it. I hope that means they will release it here too.

3g and 16gb will get me to buy a new one, and probably a lot of other people too.

Are you listening steve?

7. He's not listening at the moment.
Today, he's busy firefighting the iPhone price cut debacle. He just issued an open letter on the Apple website promising $100 in Apple Store credit to those who bought the phone before the price drop. The sound you hear is a middle-aged man backpedalling at warp speed.
