Saw "The departed"
Seemed like at the end the writers just decided they didn't wanna write anymore.

1. If anyone but Scorsese directed it, it would be excellent.
But for him, it's only a good effort, not a great one.

2. It just landed on On Demand...
I'm trying to decide if I give enough of a damn to watch it.

4. Rented the DVD awhile back. Liked it more which each successive viewing.
I kept noticing things I hadn't before.

Also it's the only movie I can think of at the moment in which I was completely repulsed by a character Nicholson was playing.

He's played villains and unsavory characters plenty of times, but there was always a glimmer of likability, or a wink to let you know that it was "all in good fun."

Not so with Frank Costello.

That was a horrible, loathsome character.

5. Yep - and you hate him pretty much from the beginning
The scene in the diner where he asks his future GF if she's had her period yet - yuck

6. Possible SPOILER Alert
I hated him from the moment he bought a little kid's soul for a few bucks of groceries and a comic book.

Not as bad as "Gangs of New York" but not as good as "Goodfellas"
