Lately, I want nothing from each day except for it to be over,
so I can sleep. It's funny; for many years I resented the need to sleep, because I saw it only as an unavoidable interruption in the things I was doing, whether that was work or other projects.

Now it calls to me, and I cannot resist its invitation. I enjoy the work that I do, but I don't want to actually DO that work. I enjoy my family, but I'm just as happy to have them off doing other things even on a holiday day like today is.

I just want to shut everything off...all the pain, mostly, and all the responsibility as well. Sleep lets me do that.

I think I'm in trouble.

But I'm going to go have a nap, now.

Redstone

3. Sounds like depression, Redstone
How long have you been feeling that way? If it's been a while it might be a good idea to see somebody about it.

But if it hasn't been too long, it might just be a temporary case of the blues. I think a lot of people go through that at some point in their lives. But remember, if it doesn't lift soon have it checked out.

I have a lot of days like that as well, though, obviously not to the same degree.

As others have said, if those feelings do not lift soon, you might want to see a doctor or counselor.

16. That sounds like my entire freshman year of college.
:( Actually, it sounds like a lot of my life, but freshman year was the worst, I think. Early morning practices for the crew team + clinical depression = sleeping a lot = ridicule from hallmates = more sleeping to get away from it. Yeah. Not a fun cycle.

I'm mostly better now, though - hope things work out for you, too!

17. Yeah, you're in trouble. And you should make the effort to turn it around before
you get in any more.

The feelings you describe could develop in any person going through what you have lately in the way of pain. However, methinks you need a professional to tell you what you can do to improve your emotional state and no one on DU can impersonate that professional.

Good luck!

19. How many times have I told how many people to yell for help when they need it,
and worn out the comparison of: "Hey, if you had diabetes (which is a chemical imbalance in your pancreas), would you be reluctant to take insulin? So why, if you have a chemical imbalance in your brain, are you afraid to take antidepressant medication?"

It's time, I think, to acknowledge that the pain has overwhelmed me. I can't fight it alone, nor even with Mrs R's steadfast help, not anymore.

Sometimes, you can't hold the sons of bitches off without calling in the artillery or a dose of Tac Air. I'll make that call for help tomorrow.

28. I'm glad to know that you are going to make that call, my friend.
I work with many people with chronic pain, and a lot of them need to take meds to help them with the depression that comes along with the chronic pain.

32. It takes a lot of courage to call for help, especially in a world where
asking for help when you need it is seen as "weak" (which is the dumbest thing I've ever heard, honestly! :banghead: ). I know it wasn't easy for me to make that call (especially after being told to "get a life" by my own father), but I'm very glad I did. Although I don't know the whole situation, it sounds like you're doing the right thing, and I wish you the very best. Peace.

25. Man...
you need a pain specialist

you shouldn't have to suffer needlessly in pain...

and I think your pain is making you depressed as well...

Find an interventional pain specialist and see what options are available, might just need new meds.

Hang in there...

:hi:
