Does anyone else love Golden Corral?
Edited on Sun Sep-02-07 09:56 AM by Akoto
I went there for dinner, and man, it was delicious. The buffet is amazing. They have the usual unhealthy foods, but they also have a surprising amount of healthy options for dinner, and plenty of veggies as well. The baked goods were really nice. I especially liked the dinner rolls, which had some kind of glaze on them. :9

1. i used to go to the one in beaumont texas
yeah, for what it is, it's pretty rad.

especially the new layout of the stores. multiple "cuisines" all you want and tons of meat dishes.

hell yeah.

make sure you wear your buffet pants when you go.

17. Only when they dinged that darned bell.
The Golden Corral I go to decides every time they take some rolls out of the oven they ding this bell to let people know that fresh rolls were coming out of the oven. Made for a disturbing dinner when all you want to hear is those around your table and nothing much else. Though lately I haven't been hearing the bell so often but it does get dinged from time to time. It's like something connected with places - every time you go into a Cici's Pizza it's always "Hi Welcome to Cici's" when anyone comes in the door. That's been going away too.

11. Hey, I've been there
Of the three Golden Corrals I've been to, the one in Beaumont wins by far!

2. It's not bad for a buffet style place
I have to stay away from such places now though because I am trying to lose weight.

6. I like it. It's a good value for the money (if you go prepared to eat a lot!)
The steak never impressed me there; I skip the steak line
and head straight for their pot roast. That's good stuff!

7. Yes, in moderation.
It's very tempting to overeat there.
I do appreciate the variety and have managed to eat healthy stuff there.

8. We went a couple of months ago
To me, everything seemed too salty. I got a piece of rotisserie chicken, a piece of some kind of marinated chicken, mashed potatoes, and a few different types of cooked vegtables. They all were too salty.
Perhaps though, the saltiness was particuliar to the particuliar cook that night.

9. Oooh, dinner rolls!
I haven't been to a Golden Corral in about ten years. When I was attending Officer Basic Course at Ft. Sill, the dinner buffet at the Golden Corral in Lawton, OK was a regular stop on Friday evening. And damn, those rolls were good!

10. I always call it "The Hungry Heffer"
We do eat there occasionally. They do have a lot of nice choices, but I always think the food is extraordinarily average. It's a good place to go with a toddler though because there's usually a lot of good nutritious stuff for them that they'll eat, particularly on the salad bar.

18. My work colleagues call it The Golden Trough.
Seriously as a buffet place it is pretty darned good - you can get a good meal of your own choosing without breaking the bank. It's cheaper than going to a "fancy" restaurant (read: Red Lobster, TGI Fridays, O'Charleys) and better than waiting in line at a "cafeteria" (K&W is a local outfit that operates "cafeterias").

Mark.

Someone above mentioned the dinner rolls and I would agree. Good comfort food.

13. Is this some kind of "Olive Garden" trick thread? But it's got friendly policies,
like, accepts personal checks & donates to veterans. But I'm getting up there where I can barely manage a plateload, so it ends up being the pot roast, mashed potatoes, & green beans. Oh, plus chocolate cake with semi-ice cream.

14. I miss Golden Corral.
There aren't any around here, and the one in Ft. Dodge closed about a year before I left there. But I loved it. As a veggie, I could always find plenty to eat! And yes, great baked goods :9

15. It's actually pretty decent (the one in Columbus, Ohio) much better than other
buffets I have been to. Only been there maybe three times in last 4 years but each time I was really happy with the food.

16. Ours closed.
Miss it only because I don't like a steady diet of Mexican food, and I can count non-Mexican restaurants on one finger.
