India Pale Ale - this stuff is pure manna from heaven
Who would have thought a method to drown out the taste of spoiled beer would turn into one of the most mouth watering beer recipes known to man. It's like the scene in Beerfest when they make the perfect beer. IPA's are that good. They take a little getting used to, but once your tongue adjusts to the bitterness, you want more. Kind of like hot and spicy food.

Here's a few of my favorites:

There are many more that are just as good - if not better. I couldn't list them all.

cheers and peace my brothers and sisters!

19. You gots to try Rogue's Imperial IPA than
If you like Ruination, you'd love this stuff. It's a little pricey ($12 in CA) but like all of Rogue's stuff, it's awesome!

Above and beyond an India Pale Ale--I2PA is radically hopped with an intense aroma and hop bitterness. Unfiltered and aged for 9 months before it leaves the brewery--not for the faint of heart. I2PA is brewed with two-row Pipkin Pale malts, Saaz, Cascade and Northwest Golding hops. I2PA is available in a new 750ml Silkscreened black ceramic bottle and on draft.

Measurements: 20 degrees Plato, IBU 74, Apparent Attenuation 75, Lovibond 13, 9.5% ABV
No Chemicals, Additives, or Preservatives

24. It's beautiful isn't it?
To quote the movie Beerfest: I wish it were winter so we could freeze it into ice blocks and skate on it and melt it in the spring time and drink it!

6. Years ago, I read somewhere
— might've been in Playboy — that Ballantine's Old India Pale Ale was the best beer in the world.

When I tasted it, I was convinced that it was indeed made from old, pale Indians.

...at the Buckhorn Saloon several times each trip, all summer and fall. Oh man, do I miss those days! Hot and sweaty from working outdoors all day or from wrangling undergraduates, nothing tastes as good as a cold AVBC pint or three! I've always been partial to their Boont Amber Ale and the Deep Enders Porter. The last is a meal in a glass.

13. Ahhh, another convert
I know just what ya mean Taverner, I discovered IPA's myself not too long ago. Normally I drink Sierra Nevada Pale Ales, but may I suggest the Dogfish 90 minute IPA? An excellent beer. They make a 120 minute version, which is better, but it will cost ya a mint. The 60 is good, but the 90 is better and worth it.

What are your favorites? Besides the Ruination which I already know I like but can't get here.

15. St Peter's! Good stuff!!!
They do a lot of unusual and interesting beers.

As long as it's not Greene King IPA I'm OK with India Pale Ale.

How is that stuff on tap? We here in California can only get it in the bottle - not that I'm complaining mind you!

20. The brewery is in the neighbouring county to me
Although I've only ever had their beers on handpump in the Dove Street Inn in Ipswich. Most of what they produce is bottled beer. The famous IPA from Suffolk is the aforementioned Greene King IPA, which is available everywhere but which I prefer to avoid in favour of other real ale.

16. Some more good ones
Racer 5

Victory Hop Devil

Tuppers Hop Pocket

And I'll second GoG's suggestion of DFH. I prefer the 60 over the 90 minute. The 120 if I'm sitting at home sipping slowly(that stuff is strong)

21. I've always preferred stouts and porters
but I can appreciate the flavor of a good IPA.

Thats the great thing about beer - there are so many different styles, and each style has so many different great examples out there. And you just HAVE to try them all in order to give an informed opinion. Beer lovers dont get into fist fights over which style is better, we just drink a few more and debate the finer points of flavor.

23. hate to argue about beer with someone named taverner
but you have the story a little bit wrong. hops are a natural preservative. ipas are heavily "dry hopped", whole hops added to the barrel after fermenting, to preserve them for the long boat ride to crown colony of india.
and yes, they are the best variety of beer, imho. the best, to me, taste green. like a fresh cut lawn. like radishes and lettuce from the garden. spring. mmmmmmmmmm.
