A Ballpark Revelation
Edited on Tue Aug-21-07 02:13 PM by BlueDogDemocratNH
Two years ago, Manchester opened its brand-spanking-new ballpark to host the local Eastern league club, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. I thought it was great that ManchVegas had a nice, modern ballpark right downtown.

Then I discovered just how unique we really are:

Kansas City, KS:

Gary, IN:

Jackson, MS:

Greensboro, NC:

State College, PA:

I don't feel quite as special now!

1. There are only a few stadium architects
HOK Sport in Kansas City being foremost among them.

I suppose if a city has only a few million to spend, which would be the case with minor league yards, their options are somewhat limited.

I'd just like to have a ball yard, period. There isn't one here, and the one in my home town where I went to some 500 minor league games was torn down around 1999.

3. It's HOK
The Fisher Cats park actually is a great place to see a game. The sight lines are good, there's little foul territory, so you're close to the action, and the quality of play is very, very high. My only complaint is that the area around the park always feels like it's under construction. Once you're inside the stadium, it's fine.

One neat quirk about this place. There is a hotel just beyond the left field fence, with a patio that overlooks the field. It's a neat touch, since the Fisher Cats parent club, the Toronto Blue Jays, have a hotel located in the outfield of the Rogers Center.
