there's a bat here in the office
it's hanging from one of the ceiling lights around the corner. I think he found his way in through the belfry construction/repair (so yes, we have bats in our belfry).

LynneSin, where's your bat-slaying feline?

1. Sounds like a valid reason to go home.
I KNOW they are good and eat bugs and stuff... but :shudder:

2. the exterminator has been called
in the meantime, the critter isn't bothering anyone. (I think it might be asleep)

3. I really like bats
They're very interesting creatures and not in the least threatening. I've never understood the irrational fear of bats and mice.

4. They ARE amazing - behind glass or from a good distance.
But stuff flying around or potentially flying around erraticlly freaks me the FUCK out!!

Yes, this includes birds.

10. What did the poor little critter ever do to you? :\
For some reason I kept finding interesting critters in the little niche where my friends and I used to sit and wait for classes to start in middle school. Unfortunately, EVERY time I found something interesting, that day every single one of my friends' buses happened to be late, so I was the only one that saw them. One time I sat next to a black widow for about 10 minutes before I noticed it right there. I'm just glad I noticed her before she noticed me. And that there was a stick nearby that I could preemtively attack with. Another time I found a bat, clinging to the bricks trying to sleep. It was actually rather cute, like a small mouse with wings. Smelled like guano, of course. :P But cute.

12. I suppose I tend to think things like that are cuter than most people do... :)
which is probably why I've owned four pets in my life, and nary a single one was a mammal. :)

13. I'm glad they didn't hurt the bat...
I worked for/studied with a zoology professor in college who was called "the batman" for all his work on bat behavior. Not sure I would have liked going along on one of his field studies of VAMPIRE bats though....:hide:
