1. Costco
Their Vizio line has had some good prices. $600 in-store, but they had one online for $500.

Don't worry about LCD vs plasma, per Consumer Reports--not enough difference to matter. And don't buy Maxtent (sp?).

6. Vizio, as it turns out :P
Wikipedia says "In 2005, VIZIO was founded with the goal of providing top tier performance while allowing their technology to be sold at lesser prices. VIZIO produces primarily LCD and plasma televisions."

So, not surprising that you hadn't heard of them (I hadn't either until I saw them in Costco).

My FIL likes his. As does a poster below.

8. Vizio is supposed to be pretty good, but be careful, because at least the line they sell at Wal-Mart
is lacking in features that you'd get elsewhere, but it is significantly cheaper. I don't know about the specific line that goes to Costco, but double check the spec sheets to see what's different. I've heard overall that name as being a good one.

2. My parents just bought a new Vizio... those things are great!
And considering the picture quality, they are surprisingly inexpensive!

7. Are they a quality brand?
Eventhough they are inexpensive. I admit the price is attractive, but I wonder about the quality.

9. Picture quality is great, and they're supposed to have a long shelf life.

10. Cnet gives Vizio a 6.4
rating, overall.

Major complaints seem to be too complicated (?) screen menus and not so true black.

11. Ranked 4th among their 32-inch TV's
http://reviews.cnet.com/4323-6531_7-6509130.html?tag=txt

And you can't touch the top 3 for that price.

If you're a Costco member, check the last two Passport coupon books you got in the mail. I just saved $75 on a memory foam mattress that way. I think that's where I saw the $500 price.

12. Yeah, I'm looking for two
One for my bedroom and one for the living room.

I'm going for the smaller one for the bedroom first. I am dying to replace the 13 in color TV i have in their now. That's also where my Tivo is.

The living room I'm working my way up to b/c I'm planning on a kitchen remodel to open up the kitchen living areas for a bigger space.

Ooh, sorry, at Costco that TV's only available as a three-pack.

15. Never seen one, sorry
Only on smaller-ticket items.

Too bad you weren't in Ga. a few weeks ago. There was a 55" DLP TV display model marked down from $1500 to $750 (!). If I didn't already have a big-screen I would have grabbed it in a heartbeat.

A week later it was gone.

16. I was in Target yesterday, and was impressed by the
picture quality of the Olevia (37" model), which was considerably lower in price than the comparable models from Sony & Samsung. Here's a link to the product - buyers seemed impressed as well:

19. Olevia and Vizio
were the two brands with the most favorable comments when I did some lengthy online research about 6 months ago.

Based on what I read (and before I knew Costco carried them)-I ordered a Vizio online - it arrived 2 days later & took maybe 10 minutes to hook up. I found that impressive being I'm a non-techie woman in my 70's. The other significant plus for me is that they are located in Southern California so contacting them and speaking with them is much less of a headache than outsourced tech depts. My birthday money was well spent!
