1. I saw a special about her on TCM
Edited on Thu Aug-09-07 12:19 PM by supernova
It was some publicity film about how they were gonna promote her, how she had all these qualities to be a really big star and interviewing her, what she wanted to do, what she hoped would be her future.

It was creepy and sad.

3. All Eyes on Sharon Tate?
Edited on Thu Aug-09-07 12:23 PM by ronnykmarshall
I've seen that too.

We had a BBQ a couple of weeks ago and watched 'Valley of the Dolls'. Great campy movie, even if it was supposed to be a serious drama. Sharon had one the best lines 'You know how bitch fags are!' We howled at that one.

5. Yes, I think that was it!
All Eyes on Sharon Tate. It was before she became famous. It was really sad watching all that energy and enthusiasm from this distance.

Ha. I haven't seen VoD for years. I had forgotten she was in it. I'll have to watch it again sometime.

7. I was just reading about that ...
the post heading inspired me to goto Wikipedia and read her bio. On that ...

In 1964, Tate made a screen test for Sam Peckinpah opposite Steve McQueen for the film The Cincinnati Kid. Ransohoff and Peckinpah agreed that Tate's timidity and lack of experience would cause her to flounder in such a large part, and she was rejected in favor of Tuesday Weld. She continued to gain experience with minor television appearances, and after she auditioned unsuccessfully for role of Liesl in the film version of The Sound of Music, Ransohoff allowed her to appear in the film Eye of the Devil co-starring David Niven, Deborah Kerr, Donald Pleasence, and David Hemmings. Tate and Sebring traveled to London to prepare for filming. As part of Ransohoff's promotion of Tate, he arranged the production of a short documentary called All Eyes on Sharon Tate, to be released at the same time as Eye of the Devil. It included an interview with Eye of the Devil director J. Lee Thompson, who expressed his initial doubts about Tate's potential with the comment "We even agreed that if after the first two weeks Sharon was not quite making it, that we would put her back in cold storage", but added that he soon realized Tate was "tremendously exciting".

<snip>

The All Eyes on Sharon Tate documentary was used to publicize the film. Its fourteen minutes consisted of a number of scenes depicting Tate filming Eye of the Devil, dancing in nightclubs and sightseeing around London, and also contained a brief interview with her. Asked about her acting ambitions she replied, "I don't fool myself. I can't see myself doing Shakespeare." She spoke of her hopes of finding a niche in comedy, and in other interviews she expressed her desire to become "a light comedienne in the Carole Lombard style". She discussed the type of contemporary actress she wanted to emulate and explained that there were two in particular that she was influenced by: Faye Dunaway and Catherine Deneuve. Of the latter, she said, "I’d like to be an American Catherine Deneuve. She plays beautiful, sensitive, deep parts with a little bit of intelligence behind them."

6. I know ...
He would have been 38.

What do you remember about the murders?

I just remember being scared. I was 8 and lived in Bakersfield at the time. We had cable TV back then and got all the LA stations. I remember George Putnam on KTTV reporting it as did Rona Barrett.

10. I don't remember too much...
I was 25 or so, then...

I also remember feeling very scared that this awful random murder could happen to me...

We lived in Manhattan Beach then...

I was horrified that they would murder a pregnant woman...

I just could not grasp that they would commit such a horrific crime...

The death of that innocent baby really affected me for a long time...in fact, it still does.

And so is Tex Watkins. There is a great clip when Doris Tate went to Watkins parole hearing. She looked him straight in the eye and said "When does my daughter get paroled?". God Bless Doris and Patti Tate. Debra is the only one left now.

And won't have another shot at a parole hearing until 2011.

If he's smart, he'll make sure they never let him go.

33. Tex Watson is NOT out of jail.
He does have a Christian themed website - http://www.aboundinglove.org/

Of all the killers involved in the Tate-LaBianca murders only Leslie Van Houten has a slim chance of getting parole as she was only involved with the LaBiancas.

the world's most inauthentic Mexican food, yet we all loved it.

California.

We went cross-country skiing on the Angeles Crest Highway, had dinner and margaritas at El Coyote, and then went to this bowling alley in Hollywood, where we continued with tequila shots. Same day.

ah, memories!

35. It would be the OJ Trial all over again
Edited on Fri Aug-10-07 08:54 AM by supernova
Sharon Tate's autopsy photos would be posted on the net.

CNN and Fixed Noise would be live with every little thing from the manson family, the victims' families.

Court TV would carry live coverage of the trial.

Endless blog entries about the timelines of the murders. Netizens would live memorial entries on the victims' Myspace pages.

The Prosecutor and the Defense Team jockeying for public opinion

Heh. Cynically speaking, and in today's melieu, she'd be the Important Murdered White Woman of the moment.

You can see them as they were found at the scene, and at the coroner's office, both before and after they were cleaned up. It is absolutely revolting - the manson family were horrible, horrible monsters.

40. I think for a case this sensational Court TV
Edited on Fri Aug-10-07 10:54 AM by LibDemAlways
would pre-empt all other programming. It would be all Manson/all the time.

However, before there were any leads in the case, there were only 4 dead bodies, 6 counting the La Biancas the next night. The endless speculation that would have caused among the army of talking heads would have been intense, and Roman Polanski would have been accused and convicted by Nancy Grace - who'd have to do on-air contortions to explain how he could have been in LA and England at the same time. Probably a good thing there was no cable "news" back then.
