Right-wing losers in small roles in Scorsese flicks
I'm not going to pretend this has any bearing on his beliefs, since he's also cast Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro and Martin Sheen, but I noticed that, not only is Fred Thompson Nick Nolte's boss in "Cape Fear", Bo "'24' is proof torture is necessary" Dietl is the guy who cuffs Henry Hill towards the end of "Goodfellas". Probably means nothing, but it's weird that I noticed those two around the same time.

2. Maybe Scorcese hires the right actor for the part.
I figure he cares more about his art than politics at that point.

3. Again, I don't think it means anything
Both those guys gained prominence as Conservabots after those movies. I'm just noting the coincidence.
