Stupid questions about the moon
If you are standing on the dark side of the moon, can you see earth in the sky lit up by the sun's ray's? And how big would the earth look in the black sky? Finally are there any pictures from such vantage point?

1. No, because if you are on the Dark Side
of the Moon, you are facing away from the earth. The moon doesn't rotate.

That's why we've always landed on the sunny side.

12. And since a new moon is only up during the day...
...the earth should appear fully illuminated.

It is over the part of the world that is still daylight.

9. Wouldn't the dark side be the side that is facing away from the sun
at any given moment? The same side of the moon always faces the Earth, but because the moon orbits the planet, and point on the moon will experience a ~28-day lunar 'day' (i.e. 14 days of sunlight followed by 14 days of darkness)...

2. nope
its called "the dark side" because it always faces away from the Earth, so you'd never see the Earth from there.

All of the manned missions went to the side facing the Earth, so there arent any pics from the surface of the dark side.

4. All communications are jammed too
on the other side. Because you have the huge mass inbetween the ship and the Earth. The dead air is about what 6 minutes long?

13. That's the far side.
Also, all Apollo landing missions landed in daylight for obvious reasons.

11. We only ever see one side of the Moon from the Earth
That side of the Moon is always facing the Earth. Sometimes it is in the dark (as in what we call a "new moon." If you were standing on it, you would see the view of the earth similar to this, depending on where the Earth was in relation to the sun, and where you were standing on the Moon. This picture was taken by the Apollo 8 mission in 1968, in orbit above the Moon, not from the surface of the Moon.

I read that the Apollo astronauts were deeply moved by the view of the Earth from space, and they realized how delicate and fragile the Earth and life on it is.
