The National Zoo has a new baby anteater!

They're calling him/her "Little Schnozzy". They won't know whether it's a male or a female for awhile yet...

We're members of FONZ, but I'm waiting for the weather to cool a bit before we go back to the zoo. A Monday or Tuesday visit in early September will be less crowded.

They're having a beer-tasting (microbrews!) event on August 23rd...

"Females give birth standing up and immediately the young anteater climbs onto her back." and "The mammary glands are lateral to the 'armpits' on the chest."

I wonder if the baby nurses while on its mother's back?
