12. Poor kid.
Tortured incessantly, I'm sure. Although even if he was named Brian or Mike or Ed, the last name is just a target on the playground.

3. My favorite example was in 'Freakonomics'
The mother that had the kid whose name was supposed to be pronounced "shuh-teed", but ended up being spelled "Shithead".

These are great too, though.

4. This one made me laugh
Hi, I would like some opinions on these two boy names for girls? I really like them. Brandyn, I am really liking this name? Curious about different spellings? Brandon, Brandin? Branden?
Jayson, Also curious about different spellings? Jacen? Jaycen? Jaysen? Tyler?

-This was actually written by Dr. Evil's father in a mad attempt to back up his claim he invented the question mark. He used it for all punctuation, whether it was a question or not, until the authorities caught up with him. In his madness, he also thought T-Y-L-E-R was pronounced "Jason."

24. I know I could never be the person at the hospital who registers the names
I would be fired the first time one of these parents came up to me with their new baby's name, because I would be down on the floor killing myself laughing. Some of them I would have to just refuse to deal with.

5. I talked my sister out of naming her kid after a state...
"Really? Is that what "solace" meant? I thought it was part of a turkey for some reason. OK, that's it. I officially declare all nouns off-limits. No Heaven, no Destiny, no Solace. Too much pressure. You just know Heaven will be a miserable bitch, Destiny a welfare queen and Solace in desparate need of Ritalin. No nouns. Not ever. No Hunter, no Colt, no Trinity, no Summer. No River, no Phoenix. No Attica, no Chance, no December. No Aria, no Legend, no god damn Dakota. Have you ever been to either of the Dakotas? Yeah, there's a reason. It's the same reason no one names their kids Iowa, Nebraska, Idaho or Wyoming."

6. Oh, and my favorite one of all...
"DAKOTA, LAKOTA, etc. I am an actual Indian, Oglala Lakota. I live in North Dakota. Stop with the so called "american indian" names, will ya? Dakota does not mean "friend", that's just what white folks think.
I saw someone here post something to the effect of "my wife is one-eighth Sioux, so we named our son 'Lakota', which means 'good earth' in American Indian. Spot all the errors in that sentence.
*If* someone is actually Siouan, they would identify themselves as Oglala, Hunkpapa, Sicangu, Nakota, Dakota, Lakota, etc., not "sioux". If the name is a word from the Lakota language, it is not "american indian". There is NO "american indian" language.
How many of you would think 'Pahli', 'Sicamna', or 'Sica' were pretty and unusual "american indian" names? Know what they mean? Mucous, Stink, and Ugly.
Do what you must, but leave the Dakota and Lakota Nations out of it, along with all other American Indian Nations. Find some other culture to co-opt."

Makes me wonder if that came from one of the bush girls.

13. I gotta ask...
What is the deal with naming your kid something really common, but changing one or two letters in a very uncommon way? I don't mean the choice between Sara and Sarah or Kathy and Cathy, but more like Madysun or Kayttlyne. It still sounds just as common, and you're pretty much guaranteed than the child will NEVER have his or her name spelled correctly. At least if it's something unusual sounding, many people will stop and ask "now how do you spell that?" But if it's Graycee or Jennnney or Sairuh no one will bother to ask, the child's nametag or whatever will say "Gracie" or "Jenny" or "Sarah." I mean, I get ethnic spellings of names, but to do it just for kicks seems like a lot of hassle for very little payoff. Just MHO, though, it doesn't really matter I suppose.

14. Their kid is so unique and special that the name's gotta show it, too...
It's just ridiculous and I do feel sorry for the kids that gotta carry them around at least until they are 18. Maybe some of them will realize what idiots their parents were and change their names.

18. It's not that I even mind unusual names. It's just weird to me that
someone would choose a really odd spelling of a really common name. It's like they can't commit. If you want something unusual, go for it. Then it might make it worth having to spell the kid's name all the time.

Capital L-A, capital V-O-N, capital D-A...by the time she finished spelling her name for you you had lost interest.
