4. I've been forbidden to play the accordian.
A dear friend of mine was constantly annoyed that I would pick up whatever instrument he was playing at the time, and in weeks would be better than him at it. So he drew the line when he bought an accordian; no matter what, I cannot touch an accordian.

Certainly I've been tempted over the years, but ultimately I've chosen to respect his wishes. :)

5. Two accordian stories
I number of years ago I saw Emerson Lake and Palmer - a group known for a stage littered with synthesizers. Lake was singing C'est la vie, one of his ballads, when Keith Emerson pulled an accordian out from behind a speaker column and starts playing along. Lake just about cracked up.

A friend of mine had an accordian, but in order to play it, it had to be hooked up to four speaker columns and a rotating Leslie. It had three on-board synthesizers - not your grandfather's accordian.

7. My great grandfather, Euphemon la Mire played the accordian
He was a Cajun from Louisiana who could neither read nor write. Spoke French and English, and could play the accordian, which, according to my mother, he liked to do accompanied by my dad, who plays guitar. I never met him, he died of pneumonia while I was in the womb, because his bitch of a wife wouldn't take him to the hospital. She lived until she was 93. Sigh. Only the good die young.

9. A qualified love them
Not crazy about the big ol' piano style. But I've been learning button accordion for 2 years. It's a popular instrument for Irish music - jigs, reels and the like. That style I love. Here's a pic:

12. Boy am I a dope.
I turned off automatic inlining of images, and so I just assumed the photo in the original post was of a piano style accordion. I just now checked it. :eyes:

Just never mind about my second, redundant photo, OK?

10. Best accordian cartoon ever

I've always wanted to learn to play the accordion, or concertina, or some other squeeze-box type instrument. I can play harmonica and piano, and I really like that wind-thru-reeds sound. One of these days when I get a spare moment perhaps...

11. Slightly less annoying than the bagpipes...but that's not saying much.
One of the reasons why I didn't like "The Lawrence Welk Show"...that damn accordion playing. Myron Floren...Lawrence Welk himself...
