I'm tempted to go out there this year, even though the 2004 design is lacking - the 1986 design had chiseled tower caps of ice whereas the 2004 design has little cloth tents on top.
But the good vantage points appear to be from rooftops, ala the xcel building. WHich they won't let people on.

Dunno though, it's the color that's really putting me slightly off. They seem to have lit the thing with the same color throughout. Conformity doesn't work in this instance. A little multicolor variation would have been nice and lively... (I could take some pics and enhance the surrounding pillars in the computer as a different color...) And the webcam shows the Palace is lit only in magenta, white, yellow, and cyan. I like the magenta, and white is okay I suppose, but the yellow color is disgustingly familiar, but cyan? Hello, where's the BLUE, PURPLE, RED, FOREST GREEN, DEEP ORANGE?!
If I go, it may as well be tonight. The rest of the weekend will likely be so cold that it'll be below the camera's operational threshold. (I'll probably use the film SLR camera, though I'd probably get more useable pics out of the digital camera...)
I dunno. Lame colors for a design that's passable only because they lit up surrounding ice pillars as well as the Palace itself. The 86 and 92 designs were rather better.
