Should you lie . . .
when your significant other comes home with a bad haircut?

I told the truth and now my bf is giving me the silent treatment. Should I have smiled and said "looks great" and let him walk around looking funny?

1. Tell the truth
Tell him how you feel, then tell him it'll grow back and that you love him.

3. I would be honest in a few weeks
After it grows out a bit and tell them to never go back to Supercuts again.

7. Going to Supercuts was mistake #1
#2 was providing no direction to the "stylist"

15. Or similar type place
I've had fine haircuts at cheapie places, you just need to provide instruction as to exactly what you want.

6. Do not lie
but undiluted truth is pretty hard to swallow if it involves someone's sense of feeling good about themselves - thus the cold shoulder treatment youre now getting. Skillful diplomacy requires delivering truth in a manner that is palatable. Try to find a way to modify the message - blame the hairdresser not him and find a different hairdresser to modify the mess in another week or so.

9. My philosophy
When it comes to telling the truth my philosophy has always been to tell people what I think they need to hear. At that point there wasn't a lot your boyfriend could do about the haircut so you should have told him it was fine. No reason to go overboard and gush, but why make him feel insecure for the next few weeks for something that can't be changed? Then after a few weeks tell him you change your mind, now that you've had some time to see the haircut constantly. Suggest that a different style might be more flattering after all.

13. Tell the truth
My husband gets invited onto local television all the time to do commentary on technology. So I sure as hell am going to tell him when his haircut sucks!

14. Is it really a "bad" haircut or just a look you don't prefer on him?
Edited on Fri Jan-23-04 06:27 PM by nothingshocksmeanymo
Is it cut unevenly?

18. then point out what is uneven and suggest he return for the stylist to fix
it.

17. It's kind of like when there is crap stuck in someone's teeth
at a crowded restaurant. Ya pretty much want to let them know about it.

19. Have a heart.
You can dig the offending food out of your teeth. You can't do jack about a bad haircut. I also vote with say "it's fine" and then suggest something different in several days. Turn him on to a good (maybe your own?) hairdresser. He already knows it looks like crap. Don't add to the pain.

20. I appreciated it when my wife confirmed that I got a bad haircut.
Edited on Fri Jan-23-04 06:57 PM by Pobeka
It didn't happen more than twice in 14 years, but it is nice when someone who has a clue about style can confirm my suspicions.

Hair grows out, it's not the end of the world. If Bush gets re-elected, that would be the end of the world.

Cheers!
