Am I paranoid or what!
I have decided to renew my passport, not because I have travel plans but because I fear that forced residence in Canada may be in my future (this is my first paranoid thought). The form asks for a contact in an emergency and I decided not to put my son down because he may be on a watch list...if he isn't now, he probably will be if things get so bad that I decide to head north (second paranoid thought). This is making me very sad because I never in my life thought that I would actually be thinking this way.

1. Don't give up. Dems in power are only a year and a bit away.

Don't know that it does.

4. I can understand that.

Last time I had to fly anyplace I really thought long and hard about what shirts to bring, didn't want to have any advocacy stuff that might lead do uncomfortable questions if my bags were searched. Hell if I know what this country's come to if one even has to think about that, remember when one of the big differences we heard so much about between the US and Stalinist regimes was their restriction on movement of dissidents?

5. Actually, I am currently printing a passport renewal form with the very same thought
So you are NOT alone in your feelings. I agree that this is a sad situation that we have to think this way. I have been discussing it with Mr. DTBK this weekend, and he said we would do whatever we need to do and not to worry because we will be together in whatever happens. What has happened to our beautiful country???

10. Sounds a little paranoid to me
and it's optional to provide an emergency contact on the passport application.

11. I realize it was optional, it just raised the thought, that's all and,
who wouldn't fill that section out?

12. Most people probably would fill it out
but with all your apparent fear, I didn't think you'd want to volunteer any information.

13. I listed a friend but the fact that I thought the better of listing my
own flesh and blood said something to me. Not my usual way of doing things, that's all.

But I understand your concern.
For you and your son.

Not that anybody wants to fly any more.
Flying sux.

17. I don't know where I'd go. I love it right here. You will have to
connect up with Will sometime and come up here. You know he's an "Alabama boy". We lived there when he was a baby. His dad is from Decatur. We lived inTuscaloosa. I was the first person in my family to ever leave the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. My family thought I was going to "tobacco row" and I did too. Instead I saw this beautiful state with rolling hills and clean, blue rivers. I loved living there...except for the heat.

18. Well bless your heart.
And I don't mean that in the 'southern pejorative'.
Yep, I knew about that.
Most folks still think that way about us.

Funny that my daughter is now a New Englander.
She was born in Illinois, but we moved to Merrimack, NH when she was seven. We were there until she finished college (U. Conn.)

I've only met Will once, at Matt's house a few years ago.
I'd like to see him again and meet you.
We're planning a trip to see the grandkids (and their parents) around Labor Day.

Maybe we can work something out.

I was devastated when the boy king got back in in '04.
I considered Bermuda.
It's only about an hour flight from Boston.
Canada is just too damned cold for me now.
But Bermuda is impossible.

If you're not a British subject you can't own property.
And it's practically impossible to become a subject.
And I couldn't afford the property any way.

you make your plans. I'll see what Will is up to.
