have you ever been caught outside during a lightning storm? struck?

i remember in 1989 when i worked as a shipping receiving guy for a retail store in houston, i had to be at work by 9.

i rode my bike to work, but the skies looked very ominous around 8:15ish.

so on the way to work, the rain started pouring, the lightning started up and i made it to the store in about 10 minutes.

while waiting for the manager to get there, (i was under an awning) i felt this tingling/popping/electrical feeling and then my field of vision was filled with greenish/bluish light and an immediate "BAMMMMMM!" that shook me up.

seemed a bolt struck in less than half a football field away from me.

i still wonder how none of the energy arced through any of the metal i was standing around.

1. Several times...

The most memorable was when I pulled the RV over to a roadside table for a euphemism break and
it struck a fence post on the opposite side of the two lane road. I could taste the Ozone.

Then... And this was funny. (To me anyway) I was watching the episode of Star Trek where the
Green Belly Dancer Lady was sent outside wearing an exploding necklace pendant by the patients
who had taken over the Asylum to demonstrate the power of the explosive... Just as they pushed
the remote detonation button a bolt of Lightning hit the transformer on the power pole to my
house... BLAM! and the power went out. I remember very clearly thinking... "Fuuuck, that's SOME
exposive!"
