or something.
I made them clean the floor with a roll of masking tape and a garbage can.

They left pool floaties and crap all over the yard, so I made them put on all the floaties and walk around cleaning the yard, with floaties on.

They left laundry all over the upstairs, so I made them put on all the clothes they left strewn about, and wear them for an hour, before putting them in the laundry baskets properly.

Am I going to instill a sense of responsibility in them, or are they just going to look back at their childhood years and think I was batshit?

2. Probably, yes.
I can't wait until they're teenagers and the embarrassment factor comes into play.

4. I think you are very wise actually.
I prefer situation disciplines also.Make the punishment fit the crime.
Now MY parents where batshit crazy. In 42 years I have never heard my father
raise his voice. He believed in asking once and not again. This worked for me .
He asked me once to put dishes away after dinner and I blew him off.So he did the dishes.Next morning
he woke me up at 4 am and gave me a tin of saddle soap and sent me to the stables to clean ever piece of leather in the barn. With 28 horses and 6 ride/drive there was a lot of leather. That lesson was learned.I never blew him off again after that.I guess a single father raising five girls one year apart keeps you on your toes.

How many servants? Do you know their names? How about the maids last and the butler's first?

6. I think looking back and thinking you were batshit
is a foregone conclusion.
