1. Thanks for bringing back the thread... I missed saying Kevin Gilbert.
How could one person be so talented at everything he did? Amazing.

Is he a singer/songwriter or did he have a band?

9. I second that.
The fact that Kevin Gilbert is a) obscure and b) dead, while Sheryl Crow continues to put out her crap saddens me.

2. Most of the bands I love are obscure.

So I guess it'd be my favourite band in general: Refused.

8. Hitch
Not as obscure in Europe as they are in the states but still pretty underground.

Their newest video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2QpBOvoVkE

11. Depends on how you define "obscure": Status Quo, TISM, Stuart Davis, Jim Boggia
Status Quo is huge everywhere in the world except the US, where pretty much nobody knows who they are. Which is odd, because their music is blues-based and repetitive, which I would think would be more appealing to Americans.

TISM is big in Australia, but nowhere else. Performers of the legendary "(He'll Never Be An) Ol' Man River," with the classic refrain of "I'm on the drug, I'm on the drug, I'm on the drug that killed River Phoenix."

Stuart Davis is one of the greatest singer/songwriters ever. Sort of an acoustic punk/folk/Buddhism kind of thing. www.stuartdavis.com

Same with Jim Boggia. Very clever, and when playing live, seems to know EVERY pop song ever written. www.jimboggia.com

12. I remember Status Quo from 1975!
I had this album when it first came out

They are still going strong after all these years. Unfortunately, most Americans have never heard of them. I was lucky to have a progressive music seller in high school and she introduced me to a lot of good, lesser known bands.

with "Moonlight Feels Right."

16. Elf with Ronnie James Dio
I found a compilation CD on half.com last year and I'm really glad I did. It combines the music of two previous albums, Carolina County Ball and Trying to Burn the Sun, both of which I owned in the late 70s. The members formed the nucleus of Blackmore's Rainbow on their first album.
