11. Depends on how you define "obscure": Status Quo, TISM, Stuart Davis, Jim Boggia

Status Quo is huge everywhere in the world except the US, where pretty much nobody knows who they are. Which is odd, because their music is blues-based and repetitive, which I would think would be more appealing to Americans.

TISM is big in Australia, but nowhere else. Performers of the legendary "(He'll Never Be An) Ol' Man River," with the classic refrain of "I'm on the drug, I'm on the drug, I'm on the drug that killed River Phoenix."

Stuart Davis is one of the greatest singer/songwriters ever. Sort of an acoustic punk/folk/Buddhism kind of thing. www.stuartdavis.com

They are still going strong after all these years. Unfortunately, most Americans have never heard of them. I was lucky to have a progressive music seller in high school and she introduced me to a lot of good, lesser known bands.

I found a compilation CD on half.com last year and I'm really glad I did. It combines the music of two previous albums, Carolina County Ball and Trying to Burn the Sun, both of which I owned in the late 70s. The members formed the nucleus of Blackmore's Rainbow on their first album.
