1. My good friend Deb. We met at age 12. I was her maid of honor at her wedding in 1989.
I saw her most recently the summer before last.

Her birthday is in a few days, and I must remember to send her a card.

She turned 13 eleven days before I did. She teased me, because she was a teenager and I wasn't. I got her back when we turned 30; I was still in my twenties for eleven days past her birthday. :)

When we turned 40, we didn't tease. We commiserated.

She's a great person.

3. I just got back in touch with one!
Through MySpace! never thought I'd talk to him again, but I found him, and it's been really great!

He sent me a pic from when I was 15 a few weeks back, and that alone was worth finding him again. :D

5. Not like I thought I would
When I go back home I will see people from time to time, but I dont contact any of them by mail or e-mail.

Don't really feel the need to either, which I never thought would happen to me. Oh well.

It is great to see what they are doing now. The downside is seeing how big their kids are!

My husband found a friend of his from elementary school.

11. I moved away and haven't seen most of them since
The last couple times we were back, I saw a couple of them. One was a desk clerk at the hotel we stayed at. A couple others were employees at a grocery store we went to. Another was a waitress.
I did not acknowledge knowing them and they did not acknowledge knowing me.
Is it bad to be anonymous in my hometown?

12. Yes ... two best friends ...
Met them when I was 15 and they 12 and 15. And they were both at my daughter's graduation in May. Kinda freaky actually.

They are affectionately known to my daughter as her Spiritual Mother (left of pic) and her Fairy Godmother (right of pic).

I was one of the few people in my graduating class who went away (all of 30 miles in my case) to college, after which point I moved to the big city. I still talk to one of my best friends from HS (actually, she called today). But otherwise, no.

17. I've known my best friend since fifth grade.
And we also reconnected with a few others we went to grade and high school with. It's fun to go out and talk about old times and hear what everyone's up to now.

We had a grade school reunion a few years ago and this was more fun than the high school one was. These are the kids that really grew up together. Everyone knew each other really well. We had a really small 8th grade class (about 80 kids) and where we grew up nobody really moved around much like people seem to today. Our 80 kids were part of a freshman class of over 600. With a class that size, you don't really get to know everyone (or want to).

21. I keep in touch with several friends from
high school - some actually go back to 4th grade. I was in touch with more high school classmates the past year than in a long time, though, since George "Macaca" Allen was in our class and several of the people I've stayed in touch with contacted the media during his Senate race last Fall to inform them that his racism is nothing new.

24. My husband and I had breakfast with a high school friend of his this morning.
I met her in college, so we've known each other almost as long. She introduced us, in fact, because a friend of mine from high school (who I don't see anymore) was her roommate in college. My husband was visiting her one night when I was visiting my friend and the rest is history.

I, on the other hand, have no interest in seeing anyone I went to high school with, except maybe one person who seems to have fallen off the radar. I do know one woman who I wasn't very close to in high school but now she's married to a friend/coworker of mine so we're now friendly. But that doesn't seem like the same thing because I didn't hang out with her in high school at all. I do remember a few people contacting me after I posted a myspace page and none of them were anyone I'd hang out with at all today. I guess high school just wasn't a very good time in my life.

College *was* a good time and I am still friends with a number of wonderful people.

I had her in 9th, 11th and 12th grade and she told me when she signed my yearbook that we had the same birthday. We have been exchanging birthday and Christmas cards ever since. I also recognized her at an awards ceremony as the person who inspired me to become a teacher.

33. My class is planning their 30-year reunion, and
reading down the list of names is like reading an encyclopedia of ancient history. I didn't go to any of the previous reunions. It seems like SO long ago that it's more like a series on The History Channel rather than something that is part of my life. The fact that these people are all still around, and I could actually go and see them live, in person, seems a little bizarre because that whole era seems like some kind of story that happened, and was recorded in the yearbooks, but it's hard for me to connect it to my life now. But it's intriguing - I might just go to see what these people look like now. To answer your original question, no, I have not kept in touch with even one single person from my high school. I only found out about it from classmates.com. I guess I wasn't close enough to any of those people. My sister has kept in touch with a few of her friends (from the same high school) and she has gone to a couple of the reunions and had a great time. I think she had a much stronger social network there than I ever had.

37. My 30th reunion was last week
I didn't go cause I am in the midst of a depression and have nothing in particular to brag about. My classmates are all overachievers and I just didn't need the ego deflation.

However, if the producer who is reading my screenplay had replied with a yes we are interested I would have been there with bells on.

He recognized me in the Apple Store. For me it took a moment for him to click. I guess he changed more than I did. Now that I'm back in the area I grew up in, I could be passing fellow high schoolers all the time. Only in memory they're still teenagers. Who knows what they look like now.

42. A couple
My best friend who I met the summer before kindergarten and went all the way through school including college together. Her whole family is like family to mine.

One occasionally; a writer who keeps me on an e-mail list for when she is looking for people to interview or has news. She recently wrote a book that is supposed to be about her sister's murder but is really about her own bad marriage and is full of inconsistencies from our school days.

One, who lives here in town but she's a doctor and incredibly busy. Known her since kindergarten, though.
