If you use mouse traps...
please remember to check them every single day.

Especially the ones set on wood shelves.

This has been a public service message from the Association for Keeping Your Lunch Down.

2.  Yup...I was noticing a peculiar odor around our backdoor/basement steps
My 12-year-old son and I went to the basement and in the far reaches, where you have to bend over to walk, we discovered a dead roof (i.e. small,(thankfully)) rat. The top side of it looked fairly normal, but when I lifted it with our dog-doo tongs to put it in a bag... :puke:.
So glad my son found it when he did!

3. That's what happened to me.
Not only had the mouse been there for a couple of days, but it had bled out in the trap, so there was a huge bloodstain with large patches of fur stuck to it. Blech.

I drowned the spot in Lysol, but we'll probably have to replace the shelf.

4. No kill traps
Then I transport them to the woods near my office.
Lets see them find their way back from there.

5. Kill 'em with chocolate...here's my story:
I was moving last Fall and I didn't have the time or energy to really close my cabin for the winter in the right way. When I went back this Spring to open it, I realized that I had left all kinds of dry food in the cupboard, a real "no no" up here in the country. I found one little mouse dead on the floor and the only thing eaten in the cabin was a candy bar. So.....

6. I always put a stack of old newspapers under the trap
Much easier to dispose of. Ugh, I hate even thinking about it.
