Edited on Thu Jun-07-07 11:17 PM by idgiehkt
or the last myspace page you visited...or anything else interesting like that. Last night some hoodlums pulled into the driveway and shot off a rifle a couple times or something and I'm jumping at every sound right now. Of course it's highly likely they will come back but I am trying to keep my mind occupied...

They do a good job, Geddy Lee has a very unique voice. I listened to Tom Sawyer, that is a song I haven't heard in ages. Thanks for posting that. :hi:

Though his mind is not for rent
To any god or government
Always hopeful, yet discontent
He knows changes aren't permanent
But change is

And what you say about his company
Is what you say about society
Catch the witness, catch the wit
Catch the spirit, catch the spit

The world is, the world is
Love and life are deep
Maybe as his eyes are wide

Exit the warrior
Today's Tom Sawyer
He gets high on you
And the energy you trade
He gets right on to the friction of the day...

The inspiration of Mike Meyer's Sprocket's SNL skit. (another Kraftwerk song on the same album was sampled for Sprocket's theme)

I still think it kicks ass. I have the actual mpeg if anyone wants it.

56. Some info on the name...
"Alexisonfire (pronounced "Alexis on fire," not "Alex is on fire") is named after a stripper's website. Not just any stripper, but a lactating, contortionist stripper named Alexis Fire. The quintet formed in 2001 in St. Catherines, Ontario. After sacrificing online discoverability for a new name, Alexisonfire was forced to select a more generic (but by no means humble) URL: theonlybandever.com."

The best band I have seen live is Propagandhi.. They rock in amazing ways.

I clearly expected her to have the level of fame Madonna did and for Madonna to be a one-hit wonder because they came out about the same time, I don't know what happened, but I know she has a very devoted following, everything I've ever heard or seen from her is top notch. And she is a great outspoken liberal too. :)

75. And, you know what?
My autistically-sensitive ear tells me that this "live performance"
created about 90 percent of the sounds audible on the LP release of that
song.

The LP release of "Smart Patrol/Mr. DNA" is just a studio-tweaked remix
of this particular live performance.

They were clever that way.

68. I understand the satire
I think there is an 'alien vs. predator' video around somewhere, I think. However the characters are stereotypes and I would guess this isn't geared at a liberal audience. Someone went to a lot of trouble to make this...it's odd the latino actors would even say things like "I can't wait to get on the welfare" and "I can't wait to steal the car stereo"...not exactly my cup of tea. Of course if it's the last video you watched, it's the last one you watched.

If you've not, everyone is in a computer world, the brainpower as they move about in this world is bieng used to power the machines, so they want to keep everyone in.

The guys in black are called 'agents' and patrol the matrix (the computer sim) from the inside to stop people getting out.

Anyway, without further ado, 'world record' from the animatrix - a collection of short animated films about people in the matrix.

117. I have been thinking of this all afternoon
like is the matrix movie some kind 1984-ish type project where they are trying to symbolize the corporatized american experience (could be religion too, of course) only the most astute realize what is going on and they want people to be blind to it and most are; because it is feeding off of everyone and if we wake up it loses it's food source? Somehow I never figured that and didn't think that those movies were that deep but maybe they are; I might go see it if they are.

You know what I just thought of? What if the gov't could get in your computer and have remote access and learn enough about what you enter to totally gather all the information about you and then there would be a big computer on the other end like HAL or something and it would come up with contrived computer-generated personalities for you to talk to...giving them distinct text/speech patterns and regional word choices and age-appropriate slang and all that, and so that you literally could be sitting here like I am now typing to someone who you assumed was a real person on the other end, but who really is just a 'dummy' persona, meanwhile the computer is exploiting you in some way (haven't gotten that far in the storyline yet). Anything is possible.

118. Well, not quite yet, but yes, I've been thinking of that lately too. And some other brainfood:
1) What happens to capitalism when about, say, 30% of people don't have any skills to contribute to society, so they cannot get employment? First I thought of this in terms of machines replacing workers, but now the cheap labour thing is kinda making this stuff a reality.

2) What happens when not-real people look better than real people? I mean, with all this internet porn stuff, there are some places where it is harder for women to get boyfriends because.... well... there is a near unlimited amount of porn with 'better looking' women in it. To be precise, the effect is not yet large but it is there.

My main concern is that this effect affects one gender far more than the other, so women more than men will have to sacrifice more to make up the difference. The thought of such gender inequality unsettles me.

Anyway, we live in interesting times.

122. #2 creeped me out because of what it implies
which is that all some men want from women is the sexual experience, which can be gotten through looking at a photo of her. I mean is the experience of being with a woman so non-tactile and so strongly visual that some men don't value the feel and touch of a real woman's body enough to actually want that experience? Because for me there isn't any real gratification in pornography, but I know men are different...I mean when I look at pictures of naked women I think 'she's cute' or 'pretty' or whatever but I never hold a magazine in one hand and etc, you get the picture, like men apparently do. I don't know...Bill Maher says something like 25% of men want to get married or be monogamous and I'm inclined to agree with him, the numbers may not be that small but I think it's less than women.

125. Ah, it's actually more about shutting down responses or heading them off.
When sexually 'saturated' as it were, then the impulse to go out looking for women is much reduced. That's the problem, not anything about the value of women to men.

Furthermore, the visual thing is just about being able to set off the response, NOT "what does a guy want from a woman". There is a difference there. :) Luckily.

Furthermore, the real worries are that

#1) It's just harder to get noticed as good looking when guys see a lot of really good looking women all the time.

#2) There is profit to be made into tricking the guys' body into thinking there is something more than just the 2d image there, fleshlights for example (NSFW).

As in, rather than "that is what guys want from a woman", it's more a question of technology bieng able to simulate the sexual side of women enough that it satisfies a guy's response, meaning that women in turn have to be more sexually aggressive to get noticed. But there is not such thing for guys, meaning the effect is one sided.

130. but if sexual simulation is that fulfilling
then that means that companionship isn't valued equally by both genders. I hear male comedians (and comedians really are the truth-tellers in this culture) talk about this all the time, how men are simple and only want food and sex. They don't want to talk, or go to the botanical gardens ( :( ). I'm talking about male comedians saying this. So they don't want all that other stuff from women that women want from men, like someone to go to the beach with and snuggle with and all that. Of course if they want kids they need a uterus for that...but I think that the reason you and I are crossing points on this is because that women I think see sex as a whole lot more than intercourse...like I think of it as eye contact and snuggling and closeness and, oh yeah there is that eventual penis in the vagina, (or other since my recent partners have been women, but since we are on the man/woman thing, here) thing that happens. So I'm getting that for men for whom the magazine in one hand (and the flesh-light thing) that it is a little bit less romantic than all that, and that they might consider what I think are legitimate parts of making love to be somehow 'extra' or 'incidental' to the sex act and not part of it, where for me I don't want to have sex without that stuff. This conversation is depressing me, lol.

131. You and me at crossing points? Not likely.
I for one am not about to forfeit all the best bits of bieng close to someone and also bieng a really good friend.

What I am saying is that the things I mentioned above mean that the guy seeks out companionship less.

Not because of anything fixed about them though, NOT because of any intrinsic properties.

It's really pretty similar to the phenomena of people snacking on something like chips, getting full, and then not wanting something that's better, like not making themselves a good dinner.

It does not mean they will never appreciate real food, it means that they are less likely to seek it at that point in time.

Not hungry for chicken cordon bleu w/opera house potatoes and steamed beans because you've been eating chips. It's like that. It does NOT mean men are fulfilled by this kinda stuff, it means that they are less likely to seek out companionship. Which in turn means that women have to compensate, which is the problem here.

(The analagy above is particularly good in that just as in what we have been talking about, chips are simply grab-it-out-of-the-packet and the meal takes time to prepare)

123. wow
it starts out with the set/funhouse mirrors kind of thing and the music kinds of builds on that theme, don't know quite what you are hearing or seeing. I like it. People in the comments are complaining about the simplicity of the beat but hell Nirvana was really simple...on alt radio right now it seems alot of the bands sound the same and it's weird because of the nickeback clones are veering into what sounds like contemporary country to me, I don't even know why it's played on alt radio so it's nice to hear something different. :hi:

127. YouTubers say the beat's "simple"?
They obviously know zilch about this band. "Atlas" is the single off Mirrored, not the rule. Most of the songs on that album are complex and effects-generated mazes of pattern war, as are most of their older songs. Battles is an all-star math-electronic-experimental group. The drummer (John Stainer from Helmet) is the only one that came from an "accessible" group. Ian Williams was part of math-metal legends Don Caballero, Dave Konopka is from Lynx and Tyondai Braxton is an experimental musician who's worked with noise rock groups.

If you've seen their live setup, there's a lot of ornate communication between the members due to all of the effects, 2 MacBooks and synths they use. The drummer is pretty much the only acoustic player on stage.

129. they are morans
I always go into the comments for one reason if it's an unfamiliar band, to find out when the song was released or thereabouts, to see if maybe someone will at least name the decade. And inevitably there is a huge war going on where someone complains about the music and they get called names and someone tries to be the peacemaker and they get ignored and then someone posts a 'chain-letter' and someone calls them names and then someone complains about the names the name-caller is using and then that person gets piled on and then it gets back to the music in question and starts all over again. Every. Single. Time. It's hysterical and I get sucked into it on a regular basis, but I never really take it for more than entertainment value, lol.

I have no idea what that was about... I was thinking maybe a combo of the Candyland game with a 'return to witch mountain' kind of theme...

Is this is a cartoon, or someone's original video? :hi:
