What's the difference between "whine" and "whinge"?
Other than the "g" and the pronunciation, of course.

2. No, you're right, billy. One is American English, the other is Brit English.

4. Sidebar: US UK confusions
This student in Durham (original one) wrote this a long time ago. I was so tickled with it that I still remember it. It was prefaced by a long, winding story about how he got himself in trouble over here as a Boy Scout camp counselor one summer. That story is now gone, sadly, but the list remains.

Here is

5. Spellings, too, especially since we tend to swap readings.
Edited on Thu Jun-07-07 02:54 PM by Writer
I started reading Tolkien in Second Grade. I picked up a lot of words from reading his books, including the spelling: T-H-E-A-T-R-E. I wrote an essay for school one afternoon using this spelling, after which my teacher (who thought I was mentally slow, btw :eyes:) stopped by to correct me. To this day, I really don't understand what difference it makes as to whether I write in American or English English. I'm used to writing in American diction, but so what if I want to adopt a new programme?
