I had an annoying, frustrating day
It started earlier this week when my laptop, the computer I use at home, would do one of three things when I booted it up; work fine, announce that Windows had detected an error and was shutting down but, really, would just freeze the screen, or would announce that there was no bootable device to be found. I was on vacation and didn't want to take it in to work for our engineer to look at it so I took my chances until today when I did take it in and discovered, luckily, it was just a couple of bugs. Then, at work, our traffic system developed a HUGE glitch and both our systems guys are off so I spent the whole day on the phone with customer service just so I could get get logs printed (usually my assistant's job; he is out) so now I have to go in tomorrow to finish other stuff, I left my cell phone on my desk thus missing an important call from someone dropping something off to me tonight and had to track her number down, and came home to a message on my answering machine that was complete static and the thing is almost brand new.

Plus the Pistons blew another close one last night.

Wah.

1. I had the same problem with my Gateway laptop.
It would work fine for weeks then I'd get that message and black screen. It wouldnt boot up for several days, then it would be fine for about 4-5 days, then the sane scenario. Brought it to THREE techs and they couldnt figure it out till the another tech told me that it was a defective motherboard that has popped up in some Gateway laptops. My warranty expired and was told that I would have to ship it to the Gateway factory and PAY for a new motherboard.

2. That's interesting
My wife is having a same probalem with her Gateway right now. Tries to boot up but then after the black screen a DOS screen tells her "Operating System Not Found." Just started doing this after three years of working without a hitch.

4. No, do NOT go Cleveland..
Go Pistons!

Laptop is fixed so they say (and it's a work computer so they will replace if need be) and my tech-savvy assistant will be back Monday to deal with the traffic hardware system but it's not soon enough for me. I shouldn't even have BEEN back at work this week; I always take the last two weeks of May off but he signed himself and his daughter up for some trumpet seminar before checking with me and since he already spent the money I was nice and let him go even though it was infringing on vacation time that I sorely needed (note: I hadn't had any significant time off since last August; he had had three week-long vacations in that time so I'm not depriving him).

He may not enjoy my mood on Monday, though....
