Yeah...we got it here few weeks later than the USA... I wasn't expecting much but I must admit I was quite surprised by it. I am actually looking forward for PART II. The dark and heavy atmosphere running throughout the show is quite effective... Am I the only one who liked it?!?

1. The original TV show? The new one? The movie?
Which one?

I'd love to see the originals again - I was a kid when they were out, and loved watching them, but as a child, never really payed attention to the story, plus I missed an awful lot episodes.

And I remember even as a kid thinking they were kind of lame, acting and non-battle-scene story-wise (especially all those times spent in people's apartments and that awful robodog), but still, I loved watching. Cyclons rocked. When I'm president, I'm giving our mlitary helmets with scary little red lights that go back and forth on a little slit.

I'd be curious to see how they stand up for me now as an adult. :-)

2. Oh... I was tlaking about the new show...
Actually the "miniserie" since it's not a TV show yet. Acting is quite impressive and storyline seems less lame than the first one....

3. Cylons scare the crap out of me.
When I was a kid my dad took me to Universal Studio Tours. The bus drove into this building that was some kind of Battlestar Galactica exhibit. All of a sudden these animatronic cylons pop up and start shooting at us! Damn near shat my pants! Dad would stop laughing at me for hitting the deck of the bus. Shit. I didn't know laser blasters weren't real.

last I heard, they asked to extend the star's contracts to give them more time to decide if it was going to be feasible to go to series.

Meanwhile...

The original 'Apollo' is trying to bring back his own version.

8. I just found out that he made a "short" called BG:The Second Coming
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0193000/

But he can't show it on TV... only in sci-fi conventions...lol

17. That is a hilarious story
It sounds just like something I would have done.

The Cylons are among the coolest bad guys ever on TV.

10. Why?
A redo of something that sucked to begin with is not a good idea.

13. Well, that's the point... Why remake something that was great?!?!
Better to do it with something that sucked.... no?

11. You're Not Alone
I hated the original Battlestar Galactica. I thought it was poorly-veiled Reaganist propaganda.

But the new one ... rawks! It's so much better in every way.

The main reason for watching the old BG was to see how Richard Hatch and Dirk Benedict would ham it up, and to check out the cute feathered-haired babes they would stuff into jumpsuits and stick on the bridge while a distracted Adama would wax portentious. (I love the sound of that phrase, "wax portentious".)

At school, we called Bendict's character "Cigarbuck" (this was long before the Cigar Chic fad hit). Interesting to see the new Starbuck has kept up the tradition, but it kind of kills the actress' sex appeal. Fortunately, she's an excellent actress.

The best changes, though, were in casting Adama and Baltar. Baltar, especially.

12. That Victoria's Secret model that played 'Number Six'...
I thought she played the roll very well.

That killin' the baby thing was pretty intense. A chat transcript with one of the writers said she was trying to spare it the fate of everyone else. I've watched it several times and its gotten no less freaky!

15. I thought it was pretty good. (Possible spoiler)
Spoiler maybe

I like the fact that once the nuking started it did not stop. The cylons are not trying to enslave or eat the humans. They just want to annihilate them. Very Old Testament and more tough minded than a lot of TV. And the cylon chick was hot.

16. Yes, the Sci-Fi miniseries was excellent, much better than hoped
The actors are great, even the Victoria's Secret Cylon superbabe. I was skeptical about the cigar-chomping female Starbuck, but she is indeed the spiritual successor of Dirk Benedict.

And I really liked how they tried to approach some verisimilitude with physical laws in space. The Vipers fire projectiles instead of "energy bolts", and they use directional thrusters to turn. Fires on spaceships look like glowing balls instead of flames. Although the space battles still have some sound (which you wouldn't hear in space, but the fights would be dull if they didn't), at least it's somewhat muted without all the swwwwoooshes and kablaams of Star Wars, Star Trek, et al.

And I also really loved how they kept in the cool stuff from the old show and even improved upon it--the Vipers, the Cylon raiders, and the Cylons themselves with the sweeping red "eyes".

I really hope this goes to series. I don't have cable or satellite, but I would invest in one of those just to see this show, which is one of the better sci-fi television shows we've seen in a while and heads-and-tails over the current Star Trek dreck.

19. Found this pieice of news about the fate of the show.....
January 19, 2004 - Battlestar Galactica Production Office Opens in Vancouver - As rumors abound the Internet regarding the fate of Ronald D. Moore's reimagining of 'Battlestar Galactica', one notable sign of the green light to series is the opening of the production office in Vancouver, BC. The Teamsters Local Union 155 has listed a production office in Vancouver, BC. With the listing of a production office, it is only a matter of time that an official announcement from the Sci Fi Channel that a 'Battlestar Galactica' series has been ordered.

An anonymous crew member of the pre-production states that,"Battlestar Galactica has been picked up. Filming is scheduled to begin as early as February."

On Colonial Fleets Forums, Actor Aaron Douglas who played Chief Tyrol in the miniseries stated the following,"For the record. BSG has opened a production office in Vancouver. They have hired a show runner and it is listed on the union production list as returning soon. If they pull the plug now they will have wasted thousands. Sci-fi does not waste pennies."

20. I didn't know there were other DU'ers at
colonialfleets? Wow thats cool.
While the purists like me are gathering at colonialfleets, the mini's fans are at galactica2003.
The new miniseries sucks for me they left many things out like the mythology and other concepts. I hated it they scifi channel and Universal studios should have made an continuation instead of a reimagined version of BSG.

I'm sure it will be the same if BSG goes to series.

I kept an open mind while watching...I enjoyed it...and more so the second and third times.
