So I went to my first baseball game Saturday ... and had a damn good time!
There was even some excitement: 2 out, bottom of the 9th, 2-6, Brewers behind, bases loaded. Pitchers getting switched out and batting lineup changing... A walk - what the hell? Brewers up one to make it 3-6... Then the pitchers they played "hells Bells" for strikes the next batter out and the crowd honestly goes wild. It was soooooooooo much better than watching it on TV. Then fireworks for afters. A lot of fun.

Did I mention that a beer, two dogs and a bag of peanuts was $25! Kids, if you want to know why your textbooks are so costly, it's because of expense account expenditures like this!

Go Padres!

1. Saturday? you lucky!
Im a big Brewers fan. Wasnt that the game that both Geoff Jenkins and Ned Yost got ejected?
Darn good game, though.

If you're looking for a bargain on seats, some stadiums are now doing "all inclusive" sections. Milwaukee and St Louis do this, Im not sure about San Diego. Here in STL, you pay $60 for a ticket, but that includes free beer, soda, bratwurst, hot dogs, and nachos. All you can eat (and drink!) until the 8th inning. And at those prices, I can sure eat $60 worth of bratwurst.

2. I don't think anyone was ejected from the game I was at
Would that have been from a fight or something? Because the game I saw was mellow adn no one got into any fights on the field. Sorry if I sound like the noob I am!

4. I see it was Friday's game
Jenkins was ejected for arguing a call with the ump. Yost (the manager) was ejected shortly afterwards for arguing the ejection. No big fights.

5. There's just something about walking into the sunshine and the
sparkling blue sky, brilliant green of the field and excitement buzzing within the crowd at a ballpark. Even makes me forget(for the time being) my distaste for Repukes and what they're doing to this country.
I haven't been to a game yet this year but anticipate doing so. Glad you had a great time.

For me - GO GIANTS!

Next time tickets are offered at work (apparently our company owns a box or something). Who would you recommend I see them play?

8. Dodgers or the Cubs!
Those would be my choices

Dodgers play in San Francisco - 13-15 July

Cubs play a weekday series in San Francisco - 21-23 August

9. OK, another noob question
I remember when I was a kid, the Cubs were perennial losers. Is that still the case? Was that ever the case?!

12. Yes, many years as perennial losers, but maybe that's why I like them. Consider this:
The Giants are in the cellar in their division while the Cubs are in third place in theirs, yet both teams are only five and a half games back. ;)

13. Am I ever going to understand this game?
I'm taking your word for it.... 5-1/2 games back from what? :-)

15. 5-1/2 games behind the team in first place
The team that is in first place at the end of the season wins the division pennant. Well, that's my understanding, anyway. ;)

*sigh* OK, I'm going to google this damn game and get to the bottom of it!

14. We haven't publicly beaten up a Dodger fan since the Seals Stadium days
;)

The San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers played their West Coast debut here, 15 April 1958. I didn't get to see a game played there until later in the season.

17. You're older'n I thought
I was 4 when Candlestick opened.

Actually, the worst "attack" I ever suffered at a Dodgers-Giants game was having ice thrown at me. Little ice, like from cups. And they were just lobbin' it.

Anyway, I ask for it by flyin' the colors in SF. :D

Oh — the Giants won that game 8-0. I think Johnny Antonelli pitched for 'em. And Russ Hodges kept saying "New York Giants."

18. Not much older
You know I tossed Hodges' afternoon paper, but I didn't mention Russ Hodges also broadcast our Little League games on KTIM radio every other Tuesday, schedule permitting (this pea brain thinks 1960-64?).
